Army Reserve to Purge Turds from Their Ranks

CAMP ZAMA, Japan — Having evolved from a force of “last resort” to an oft-deployed and essential component of the military, the Army Reserve now needs restructuring.
And that includes purging its ranks of underachieving soldiers, the commander of the U.S. Army Reserve said Thursday.
“We have to reshape the Army Reserve,” Lt. Gen. Jack Stultz told a group of reservists during a town hall meeting at Zama. “It’s no longer a right to serve 30 years in the military. It’s a privilege.”
The Army Reserve has been successful in readying soldiers and restructuring units to support the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, but now it needs to “transform the personnel system,” he said.
As if this is a problem only with the reserve component. How about enforcing the rules across the board? How about taking these “BDU inserts” some pass off as soldiers and send them packing no matter what component they serve in or branch?
And how about we focus with the field grade officers that waste so much of our time and energy. Where to start?

Hmmm. I dunno either. (is that hair touching your ears, sir?)
Let’s kick around the reserve component for awhile. They are such low hanging fruit. Isn’t it fun?
Frankly I get a little sick when people start beating them up for sport.
Most work everyday surrounded by civilians who know nothing of what they go through one weekend a month. They are expected to maintain the standards that Active Duty studs do everyday. The Guard and the Reserves are true American patriots. They leave the comforts of their lives and come home from battle without the support of the active duty ranks. They go back to the water cooler and can’t share anything they have experienced with their co-workers in fear that Marge from Accounting will drop acid and poke her eyes out with a three hole puncher like Oedipus’ mom.
Not sure they had three hole punchers then, but it would still hurt.
Leave reservists alone. There are plenty of turds to thin out. George Casey is my number one choice.
Here is a perfect example. Who the hell made this decision?
Check out the new Army battle dress uniform made specifically for the Afghanistan fight. Notice the “coyote brown” splotches that work so perfectly with the vegetation, mountain terrain, urban sprawl and poppy fields of Helmand.
So why the hell did we issue the ACU to our hundreds of thousands of troops four years ago? Was this a stop gap for this new uniform?
Is this alien technology that fell from the sky this past summer?
This uniform is made by MultiCam, which is a great company. It still looks like a British uniform that was washed too many times.
And what about Afghanistan is so different than the rest of the world we expect to fight in? There are no cities in Iraq? Do “coyote brown” splotches only work in Afghanistan?

This is a ridiculous decision that has cost tens of millions of dollars. We’re still going to issue the ballistic armor vests with the ACU print. So what’s the point?
If we are thinning out the turds, lets also look at those who make these decisions and who can’t get a decent haircut. Freakin’ hippie

And don't forget the shade factor. Look at that boy in the first picture. If I'm in Iraq and it is 45 Centigrade out there, I'm gonna be standing in his shade.

Actually, I am going to respectfully disagree with you on this one. No, I'm not touching the gay issue, but people who cannot watch my back the way I can watch theirs are simply not welcome to me. If I run up a hill I want my buddy by my side, not retching halfway up.

I think in no way or form did rafi mean to point at anyone on this forum. It is just a post about well, what its about. I'm sure most of you US Army folks were not pudgy at the time of their acceptance in Army Basic training (Boot camp for Marines) but Ive heard some folks in the army tell me that they do have a overweight GI problem. I think I will take the liberty and change the name of this thread a little. If rafi has an objection he can always change it back lol.
Actually there is such a desperate need to recruit people in the army, that even overweight folks have been accepted, with the condition that they train with an army drill sgt, until they are fit enough to pass Basic.

Good eye Ron, and if you check out the sign behind Sgt. Hefty, you can see it is in Cyrillic, so that is either in Russia or one of the Slavic Countries of the former WARSAW Pact.

But we have some of the same thing going on here, Fat Guys need not apply until it is time to bleed.

Even at my best weight when I was in service 185, and 6'1" I was over weight according to the new weight standards of late 80tys, 90tys, and early 2000nd.

I have several friends who are active operators today, good men all, and they would be considered overweight by the strict standards of those years.
