The Indo-Israeli Long Range Surface to Air Missile (LR-SAM) was successfully test fired in Israel last fortnight. "The 70-km missile was fired at an electronic target and met with its initial objectives," DRDO chief Dr Vijay Saraswat said in an exclusive interview with India Today.
The second test of the missile will be held in India sometime later this year. The missile will be integrated by Indian technicians. The LR-SAM area defence missile is being jointly developed by India and Israel under a Rs 2500 crore project which began in 2006. The missile, also called the Barak-2 are to equip the three guided missile destroyers of the Project 15A cl***. The three destroyers are to join the Indian navy in one year intervals beginning in 2012.
"We will deliver the system to the armed forces in 2013. I am very confident it will be an astounding success," Dr Saraswat said. A second variant, called the Medium Range SAM (MR-SAM) is being developed for the Indian Air Force under a Rs 10,000 crore project signed in 2009. The MR-SAM is to replace all the IAF's ageing Soviet-made Pechora SAM missiles. According to naval officials, a 100-km range theatre defence version called the Extended Range SAM is being developed for the four Project 15B destroyers.

Thanks for posting this bit of information. I am a bit curious to know more of the missile.
Isn't interesting the old truism "that politics make strange bedfellows" is still so relevent even today.
Israel and India, both founded from ancient original native populations with thousands of years of local inhabitation, Israel from its Jewish origins and India from its Hindu origins, and each with their individual religous and cultural mores, but separated by vast geographical distances.
Two more unlikely "bedfellows" you could find anywhere.
And all this brought about by by the insane threats of mutual annihlation on both Countries, from Islamic Sharia jihadi nutters from their next door neighborhood Islamic countries who scream out that Israel/Jerusalem and India/Kashmir belong to them based on their meglamaniacal belief of a world wide Islamic Caliphate.
United we stand divided we fall.
So there has also been some good news out of all this Islamic Caliphate insanity, Israel and India both the only true democracies in the local neighborhood have become great friends and united together, both militarily and commercially, to provide the means to defend themselves and their people from the threat of Islamic jihadi terrorism.
This is one more nail in the coffin of Islamic Caliphate meglamania, as long as democratic countries like Israel and India stand united in the defence of democracy, the threats of the Sharia inspired imams and ayatollahs will wither in to dust.

No dude...russian SAM's are land based and Barak-2 is sea based. BTW...the russians have a very good reputation of making the best of SAM's.

I agree with him the Russians still make SAM.s that are best, also to note that the partnership with ISRAEL has enhanced our own defense network... Thanks to our friends...

BTW...the russians have a very good reputation of making the best of SAM's.Well, sort of. Clearly the Russians get points for trying. But Cold War era Russian systems were often handicapped by primitive electronics--an area where Russia lagged the West.

A land based Barak SAM? Intresting...Indian army has ordered Akash SAM in large numbers and also regected a US offer of PAD-3 because of this reason! Also...the AAD and PAD are in the trail phases. So all the "three tiers" will be covered. And for installations of utmost importance, there is SPYDER SAM. What would be the probable role of a land based Barak SAM??

Hmm yeah..the soviet era Pechora SAMs are of little use in todays scenario. But the "S" series SAMs are definitely enemy's nightmare IMO. And if Wiki is to be believed,S-400 is also capable of "tackling" stealth also!!

I wouldn't believe all the hype that the Russians use to promote their weapons. They can still make formidable missiles, but defeating a true stealth platform would require a very different kind of radar network than what the S-400 uses today. It is doable, but at considerable cost.
Electronics (and most importantly, the signal processing that goes with it) is still a sore point for the Russians. Two decades of anemic Russian defense spending has done very little to help them close that gap.

Great news for both nations. Hopefully we'll get to see some video footage in short order.

I say good news. I think nations facing hostilities from islamic nations should be armed to the tooth, and if two islamic nations duke it out we should sell weapons to both sides. We being America of course.
Good news.
Can someone point out what were Israeli and Indian contributions in design and production of this missile?

If you compare it to western systems, bar the Patriot and Aegis systems none other systems comes close to it's performance.
This system is highly unlikely to be suppressed by a non stealth aircraft and only two stealth platforms are operational. As for defeating stealth, despite the notoriety of Russians, I think they are capable to do so. Sometimes their approach may be different but the results are same.
