You can't choose to be in the IAF, IAF choose you :-)
Before entering the army you get a list with all army jobs that you can choose. Only if you study good and your profile is excellent you have a chance. You need to make a short course, during it you must pass three stages. After each stage you have an exam. The most difficult is a test on a simulator. You need to pass it but you actually don't know how it works, so the experience in computer gaming is all that you need here.
If you passed all the stages successfully you would be able to try yourself on the pilots course when you enter the army...an here the hell begins.
I know one guy that almost finished the pilots course in the army but he came to the lesson 3 minutes late and was expelled...one year of the army service and one year of his life was ****ed up.
P.S. There are also some special IAF's secondary schools, if you finished it you'll get a better chance to become a pilot.
Onemore thing...You can't become a pilot if you moved to Israel less then 7 years ago and if your parents don't live in Israel. So I have no chance to be a pilot but with my profile i could try.

It's curious, I tought the pilots studied in some kind of Military School, (In most countries only those whit certain economic posibilities can enter).
So, this doesn't seem as unjust as it appear, it's like saying: "everybody have the chance to be a pilot, but only those whit the skills can become pilots, gentlemans, good luck"
You must try Hayal, there is no imposibles.
P.S.: If you are not assigned to IAF, which other unit would you prefer?
(Personally I would like to be in an artillery division :D )

I've never heard anything good about an artillery...I'm going to try myself in Duvdevan (i hope you know what's that).

Don´t like artillery, :( . Anyway.
Infantry is always one of the list for me, specially to get into Special Forces,:D .
Devdevan?
Have no idea, what is it??

Duvdevan is a SF created especially for operations on arab territories (Yehuda and Shamron). It is a part of paratroopers brigade but operates as a separate unit.

If your profile is good enough, and you have the skills, and the only thing limiting you is the policies about lenght of time in Israel/where your family lives, I would suggest sucking up to a big macher. Liek everything else in Israel, if you make enough noise/know the right people, you'll get what you want. Couldn't hurt to try, no?

I heard of a Special force which members are all beduins, for groundfield operations in arab territories, and Intl Ops. Is this the same unit?
BTW: Good pictures, specially the first one.

I see, I suppose there must be an air reserve, what about them?
What kind of aircrafts they fly?

Well, i don't know much of this.
All i know: it is extremelly difficult to get there.
Most of them start training from young age, going through one pre-flight school to higher levels...
And, yes, there is an air reserve, just as any other.
Maybe, these links will assist you in any way:

I've heard somewhere that to become an IDF pilot the security clearance is rough, like you have to have lived in Israel ATLEAST 7-8 years? and that your parents have to be Israeli...

this sounds quite in accordance with what i know.
Sure, there is some degree of relief with the new immigrants.

What about the Air Force crew, I mean technicians and all that, they must pass the same requirements?
ArthurSherman

No. They must possess techical skills with engines etc.

There is a flight academy .It is located near Beersheva :Hatzerim AFB, it is home to the IAF museum and to various training squadrons. The primary mission of the flight academy is to qualify the aircrews.
Tel Nof AFB acomplished this mission until 1966.
The system is totally different from that you know in guatemala or the one here in chile , where the flight academies are special schools for officers only.In Israel the IDF selects the best men for serving as an IDF/AF pilot, all of them coming from the compulsory military service.

I see,Lumian, thanks for that info, I really don`t know how it works in the Chilean Air force, but I`m completely sure that have a very high level of excelence. BTW: Nice job whit the training planes manufacturing, specially the PC-Pilatus

You need to have been in israel at least 7 years. Your hebrew must be PERFECT, and from what I understand you must score 100 on your health profile and your IQ must be above 160 (which is VERY high).
