IAF's new chief: Maj. Gen. Ido Nehushtan
The appointment Maj. Gen. Ido Nehushtan as new chief of the Israeli Air Force has been sanctioned by Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Friday. Nehushtan will replace Maj. Gen. Eliezer Shkedi, who has been heading the IAF for the past four years.
Nehushtan previously served as OC Planning. His replacement in this role has not yet been declared.
An experienced pilot with thousands of airborne hours on his flight log, Nehushtan is also a graduate cum laude in Computer Science and Mathematics form the Hebrew University, a post-graduate in Business Administration from Northwestern Kellogg in Chicago and a graduate of Harvard University's Advanced Management Program.
Nehushtan was chosen over Brig. Gen. Amir Eshel and Brig. Gen. Yohanan Locker, both high ranking IAF officers. It is not unlikely that one of them will be Nehushtan's successor.
IDF sources said Maj. Gen. Eliezer Shkedi, who revolutionized many aspects of the air force, is likely to retire.
