Rare footage of Israel in color 1947-67

Fred Monoson's archive is a hidden treasure for history lovers. The Jewish American philanthropist documented colorful moments of history, which came to symbolize the changing faces of the Jewish nation in the heart of the 20th century:

I can't believe I haven't noticed this thread before. Like the broadcaster said at the end, "it's kind of magical." I have sent the link to quite a few people who will be pleased to receive and view this film. Thanks so much.

Very impressive, the colored historical film about Israel. Indeed it looks like real ... better then this black and white films, showing the first years of the state Israel. That colorfilm is a valuable document and its awesome, that its saved for us.

Israel - 1951 - in colour
If you like that, you may also like this. I posted it on the Images section last week, but it may have been overlooked there by people. It is a tourist video, but I love it just the same! I hope you enjoy these 32 minutes of joy!

Yes, very nice film .. shows a lot of history of Israel... notable in the first minutes of the film .. there are some interesting buildings to be seen in Tel Aviv, made in the so called Bauhaus Style. The buildings built in Tel Aviv from the 1930s by german jewish architects who immigrated to the british Mandate of Palestine after the rise of the nazis.

To be honest, i did not know, that the Bauhaus Style was created by Jewish Architects. After looking the film i must be honest, i took a look at Wikipedia ... and there is written .. that Tel Aviv has the largest number of buildings in the Bauhaus Style.
Furthermore the challenge,to make the Negev rank, to drain the swamps in order to buid up the agriculture of Israel and to build up the citys ...that was realy a lot of work.. . By the way .. is the Jordan still as blue as in the film? Very nice pictures of the River indeed.. very beautiful, rarely seen such a nice blue wather. Ok, its a bit of an advertising film too .. but never the less, for the observing viewer, the film gives a lot of good information about the build up of the young Israel.

Yes, it is a beautiful film, never mind it is a tourist video. It just makes it all seem so real and recent. Perhaps if there are any Israelis on this forum they can give their comments on the 1951 film to how things are now, and in what way things have changed.

Since having yet another birthday last week, I am more and more hankering for the good old days. The years pass so quickly! The people look so happy in that video, and I am sure people were happy then, even with hardships, although of course it is a tourist video and they have to show happy faces. Even now Israelis are considered to be much happier than citizens in a lot of other countries. There is a link I posted, a week or so ago on the Israel forum here that explains it more.

here is the link

Does Steven Spielberg do the same thing collecting old jewish films and presenting them in one place on the internet ? Nice find btw.

Israeliman 05-28-2011 11:02 PM

Steven Spielberg indeed has made a film archive of Jewish history.

AlexHamburg 07-22-2011 03:06 AM
