Default F-15C Showing Signs of Age

The US Air Force is contemplating an early retirement for the F-15C: in the mid-2020s rather than after 2040 as previously planned.
http://www.military.com/daily-news/2...mid-2020s.html

At issue is the unexpected, steep cost of overhauling the airframes, in addition to the electronics. To continue use past the mid 2020s, each airframe will cost $30-40 million.

Israel's F-15Cs have similarly seen heavy use, and some F-15As are already being retired from Israel's inventory.

What do you reckon US Air Force will replace them with ??

Up-graded F-15's

Re open the F-22 production line, with upgraded avionic's

Develop a 6th generation; all singing, all dancing, fighter.

That's the problem. As planned, the USAF had a new airplane envisioned to replace them starting in 2030 - the so called NGAD (next generation air dominance) fighter.

If they have to retire them all in the mid 2020s then there's nothing in the works. Restarting F-22 production would be too expensive (and it doesn't have the range they want). They're probably not willing to admit that they made a mistake and buy new build F-15s. The USAF is in a bad spot.

Israel of course, wants to buy more F-15s.
