Post Iran: Ahmadinejad's Holocaust Denial Approved By Khamenei

Iran's supreme spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ali Seyyed Khamenei.

Tehran, 8 Feb. (AKI) - A senior adviser to Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Mohammad Ali Ramin, has revealed that the November 2005 speech on the need to "wipe Israel off the map" and the subsequent denial of the Holocaust, had been decided in accordance with the country's supreme spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ali Seyyed Khamenei. In an interview with conservative daily Resalat, Ramin said that in the Islamic republic "it’s impossibile to address issues of vital importance for the country without the approval of Ayatollah Khamenei."

Ramin added that "the Islamic Republic addressed an issue as delicate as that of the Holocaust on which Western governments are extremely sensitive, aware of the price it would have to pay on the international stage."

“We were convinced," added Ahmadinejad’s counsellor, "that denying the Holocaust and underlining the destruction of Israel we would have diverted international attention away from the Iranian nuclear dossier."

Ramin, who is president of the "Holocaust Foundation" established in recent weeks in Tehran, is convinced that the debate on the Shoah "divides the infidels and reduces the risks of their victory over Muslims."

In his view "the current Iranian government represents the will of Allah in a world dominated by secular and infidel regimes" and dividing these governments "reinforces the Islamic front."

Mohammad Ali Ramin, who graduated with a philosophy decree in Germany, argues that "denying the Holocaust has posed problems for that part of the West which, by sending the nuclear dossier to the UN Security Council, sought to bring us to our knees."

Mohammad Ali Ramin’s comments have not been welcomed by some sectors of the hardline Pasdaran or Revolutionary Guards. In a note on the internet site Baztab, former commander of the Revolutionary Guards, Mohsen Rezaii, accused Ahmadinejad’s counsellor of being "on the payroll of international Zionism."

"Considering the high price paid by the country after the denial of the Holocaust," wrote Baztab, "it would be no surprise to discover that president Ahmadinejad had been pushed to adopt such a position by an agent of the secret services of the Zionist regime," in an apparent reference to Ramin.
