Exclamation Leader Says Hamas Will Never Renounce Jihad

Leader Says Hamas Will Never Renounce Jihad
GAZA CITY, Palestinian Territories — Senior Hamas official Mahmud Zahar said on Monday that the Palestinian Islamist movement will never give up its armed struggled against Israel.

The statement comes as Gaza Strip officials openly attacked the movement's leader-in-exile Khaled Meshaal, who has decided not to run again this summer for the leadership of Hamas, for prioritising "peaceful resistance."

"We are fighting for our dignity and rights. Jihad is our path, our life, our pride and we will not renounce it no matter the sacrifices," said Zahar, quoted on the website of the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas's armed wing.

Hamas will "never give up its armed struggle against the Zionist enemy," he said during a speech in Zeitun, a neighbourhood in east Gaza, in honour of the "martyrs" of Israel's December 2008-January 2009 Cast Lead operation against the enclave.

Damascus-based Meshaal, who survived a 1997 Israeli assassination bid, has confirmed he wants to quit after eight years in the post, the Islamist movement that has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007 said on Saturday.

"Political bureau chief Khaled Meshaal has notified Hamas's consultative council that he does not wish to be a candidate for the movement's future leadership," a statement said.

The political bureau is Hamas's principal decision-making body and its members are elected by secret ballot by the much larger consultative council.

The next elections are expected to be held in July or August, Hamas sources have said.

Among the leading candidates to replace Meshaal are his number two, Mussa Abu Marzuq, who also lives in exile, the leader of the Hamas government in Gaza, Ismail Haniya, and Mahmud Zahar, another prominent Hamas figure in Gaza.

But deep down, they really, really want peace. To think otherwise would be "Islamophobic."

Thumbs down US Tax Dollars Pay Terrorist Who Threatens Jews, Christians

US Tax Dollars Pay Terrorist Who Threatens Jews, Christians

Tuesday, 24 Jan 2012
By Brett Sandala and John Bachman
http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/Pal...1/24/id/425364

Itamar Marcus of Palestinian Media Watch tells Newsmax that American tax dollars are paying the salary of a terrorist who “just called for the killing of Jews in the name of Islam.”

Marcus, the media watchdog’s founder and director, was referring to a video in which Muhammad Ahmad Hussein, the Palestinian Authority’s grand mufti of Jerusalem, “quoted a hadith that said ‘the resurrection won’t happen until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them.’ And this, of course, is hate speech.”

Those who promote such hatred often say one thing in Western languages when speaking to the West but say things entirely different in their own language when speaking to their followers, Marcus said. Translations reveal the true vitriol.

Asked how the United States should respond, Marcus replied, “The United States is funding the Palestinian Authority,” so it should insist that it “‘take that man off your payroll and come out with a statement rejecting that.’ If he can make a statement calling for Muslims to kill Jews in the name of Islam and there will be no response from the international community, it’s giving a message to all Palestinians that the world is accepting that as a valid ideology.”

During an exclusive interview with Newsmax, Marcus warned that U.S. and European leaders are “making a very big mistake in treating the Palestinian Authority as an authentic peace partner when it glorifies violence and demonizes Jews and Israel.”

However, Palestinian hostility is not limited to Jews, Marcus notes. The authority “makes a presentation as if they’re defending Christians, which they’re not. Hamas openly has called for the killing of Christians . . . There was a video that ran on Hamas official television last year which said, ‘Allah, fight the Jews and their allies and kill them. Fight the Christians and their allies and kill them. Fight them until the last one, don’t leave even one.’ Essentially, this is a call for genocide of all Jews and Christians on official Hamas television.”

As far as the seemingly more moderate, U.S.-favored Palestinian Authority of the West Bank, “When Israel ruled Bethlehem [in the West Bank], from 1967 through 1994-1995, the Christian population was 60-70 percent of the population of Bethlehem. When the area was transferred to the Palestinian Authority . . . [the Christian] population has dropped from 60 percent to less than 10 percent. So here you have a very holy Christian city — one of the holiest Christian cities in the world — and yet Christians have been forced out by the Palestinian Authority’s way of governing there.”

Marcus and the Palestinian Media Watch recently published the book “Deception: Betraying the Peace Process,” which he said documents “Palestinian Authority non-recognition of Israel, hate incitement, and promotion of violence during the 2010 peace talks and through 2011.”

“It’s important that people know wherever hatred is being promoted,” Marcus said. “If people are going to be brainwashing their children to hatred, and no one knows about it, the situation is going to get much worse . . . Palestinian Media Watch exposes the hate speech so that people can know what the Palestinians are saying.

“You cannot trust what people are telling you in the language that isn’t their actual language. You must listen to what they’re saying amongst their own people in their own language,” Marcus told Newsmax. “When the Palestinians speak to the Americans, when Mahmoud Abbas, the [Palestinian Authority] chairman, speaks to President Obama, he’s telling him what he wants him to hear. And what we have shown in the book, and that’s why we named it ‘Deception,’ is that you have a completely different message in the Arabic.”

Among the myriad instances in the book, Marcus offers an example of Palestinian doublespeak: “Salam Fayyad, the [Palestinian] prime minister, is known as one of the most moderate people in the Palestinian Authority, and I think correctly so. However, even this moderate, on the very same day that he condemned a terror attack that happened in Jerusalem . . . That very morning, he got on Palestinian radio and he talked about honor and admiration for four female terrorists, two of whom drove suicide bombers to their bombings, in which five people were killed.

“So here you have Salam Fayyad, just about three or four hours apart, condemning terror to the international media, and to his own people, in Arabic, glorifying four terrorists. And that is the message people have to get from the book: Don’t believe what they’re telling you in English. You must listen to what they are saying amongst themselves in Arabic.”

When asked how President Obama’s handling of Israeli-Palestinian affairs compares with that of his predecessors, Marcus responds, “When he came into office, [Obama] talked about a Palestinian state within a year or within two years, and he had no real sense of what the Palestinian Authority was about. He really believed that they would be willing to compromise. He really believed that they were interested in peace. And I think he has stepped back a bit.

“I think he’s gone through some kind of an education process where he has become aware . . . that the Palestinian Authority really does speak with two faces, and I think because of that he has sort of given up his dream and his optimism that you can just take your magic wand and create peace.

“I think he has a better understanding now of the Palestinian Authority, and I think that’s why he has been taking the pressure off of Israel that he was putting on them a few years ago.”

Asked whether he believes that a true peace agreement between Israelis and Palestinians is a realistic expectation, Marcus said, “The overwhelming majority of Palestinians . . . see a two-state solution . . . as the first stage toward the destruction of Israel. Israel would be incredibly vulnerable with the West Bank under a Palestinian state. Israel would be about 12 miles wide in some places, and . . . our airport would be a few miles away from the Palestinian areas. Tel Aviv would be a few miles away. Jerusalem would have Palestinian state on three sides.

“Now when you have an ideology that’s promoted in the Palestinian Authority that Israel has no right to exist, and people grow up with that message, and the children are being educated in their schoolbooks that Israel has no right to exist . . . What are those children going to do when they become voting age a few years down the line and they see that Tel Aviv is within shooting distance and Jerusalem is surrounded? What impetus is there going to be to hold on and to keep the peace treaty? The answer is, there won’t be any.

“Because they’re being brought up to hate Israelis, to hate Jews, both on the nationalistic level as well as on the Islamic level, there is no chance right now of a peace treaty being something that will be fulfilled and kept if it’s signed today. What we need today is a massive peace education process in the Palestinian Authority . . . We are nowhere near that today and that’s why the peace process today is a false peace process.

“We want an authentic peace process, we need peace education first and then once we have two sides who really want to live in peace, then let’s start tackling the very difficult issue of borders. But until we have people interested in peace, the border issue is really irrelevant.”

Mideast Ennui: PLO Officials Refuse Talks, Blame Israel
Resorting to their tried and true propaganda tactic, PLO officials are blaming Israel for their refusal to come to the negotiating table.

By Gavriel Queenann

http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/152141

PLO officials went on the offensive and sought to blame Israel for the failure of exploratory contacts with Israeli negotiators as they met with EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton on Wednesday.

The meeting comes as Ashton visits the region for three days in a bid to keep the meetings from stalling. Israeli officials have already agreed to extend the meetings in hopes of a break-through, but PLO officials are adamant the talks are at an end.

Former PLO negotiator Nabil Shaath told Ashton that a 21 point proposal presented by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "lacked any detail" and was "rather a composition about peace done by a high school student."

President Abbas also dismissed Netanyahu's proposal as "worthless" and said the main obstacles to resuming negotiations are "Israeli settlements, above all in Jerusalem, and settler violence against Palestinian communities."

PLO official Hanan Ashrawi told Ashton, "With the escalation of settlement activities in and around Jerusalem, the arbitrary arrests of Palestinian representatives and lawmakers, continued annexation of Palestinian land and natural resources, and the eviction and deportation of Palestinians, Israel is thwarting all efforts to resume talks and to honor its obligations under international humanitarian law.

Ashrawi's comments come amid other statements from Palestinian officials declaring that exploratory peace talks in Amman have ended due to what they describe as "Israeli intransigence."

Israeli officials say PA officials are playing "the blame game" while using a raft of preconditions as a fait accompli to forestall talks.

PA officials insist Israel agree to the indefensible pre-1967 lines as borders for a future PA state, release all Arab terrorists from its prisons, and halt construction in the 'disputed territories' before negotiations can begin.

Observers note that a previous 10-month building freeze aimed at meeting PA demands was not only rebuffed, but answered with both new preconditions and a unilateral statehood bid at the United Nations in violation of the 1993 Oslo Accords.

They also note that while Israel does not build in areas under PA administrative control, the PA continues to underwrite a mass project of illegal construction in areas of Judea and Samaria under full Israeli administrative control.

Nonetheless, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has said he is ready to enter formal negotiations without preconditions from either side "anytime, anywhere."

The exploratory talks in Amman came as part of a proposal by the Quartet of Middle East mediators - the United States, European Union, Russia and the United Nations - which set a three-month deadline last October for the two sides to make proposals on issues of territory and security.

The aim, widely panned by analysts as having no correlation to reality, is to reach a peace deal by the end of this year.

Ashton is expected to demand Israeli confidence-building measures towards the PA, including freeing some prisoners and removing more security check-points in Judea and Samaria.

However, critics say Ashton is not likely to ask PA officials to make reciprocal gestures towards Israel, raising questions as to whether she is an honest broker and that she is naive about Ramallah's true intentions.

In December 2011 PLO officials admitted they were no longer interested in a bilateral agreement with Israel and were, instead, adopting "a strategy based on continuous efforts along with the international community to secure full recognition and full United Nations membership, pursuing internal reconciliation, and keeping up the popular resistance."

Exclamation Palestinians Use Nazi ‘Sieg Heil’ Salute During Fatah Celebration in Lebanon

Palestinians Use Nazi ‘Sieg Heil’ Salute During Fatah Celebration in Lebanon

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/pale...on-in-lebanon/

Invoking the salute made notorious by Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich (later adopted by the Islamic militant group Hezbollah), Palestinians used the “Hitlergruß” — or “Hail Hitler!” — salute during Fatah celebrations in Lebanon.

The Yasser Arafat-founded Fatah coins itself a “moderate” party, yet these depictions, along with its documented history advocating anti-Semitism and anti-Semitic violence dictate otherwise.

The footage, provided by MEMRI aired on Palestinian Authority TV on January 24, 2012. Even the music used is evocative of the kind used in Nazi propaganda pieces:

Palestinian TV aired an interview last week with relatives of the convicted murderers of the Fogel family, who called their imprisoned kin “heroic,” Haaretz reported.

The interview was part of the weekly show “For You,” broadcast on the Palestinian Authority’s official television channel. “For You” focuses on Palestinian prisoners imprisoned in Israel.

According to Palestinian Media Watch, the interview with the mother and aunt of Hakim Awad aired on Jan. 19 and Jan. 21. Awad, along with his cousin Amjad Awad, were convicted of brutally stabbing to death five members of the Fogel family in their home in March 2011: Father Udi, mother Ruth, and children Yoav, 11, Elad, 4, and 3-month-old Hadas. The baby’s throat was slashed while she was in her crib, The Blaze previously reported. An Israeli court sentenced both Awads to five consecutive life sentences for their crimes.

In the interview, Awad’s mother referred to her son as “the apple of my eye” and praised him for “the operation.“ His aunt referred to him as ”the hero, the legend” and dedicated a brief song to him.

The show’s host added: “We, for our part, also convey our greetings to them.”

Watch below:

Transcript of the interview, via Palestinian Media Watch:
PA TV host: “We have a call from the family of prisoner Hakim Awad.”

Mother of Hakim Awad: “I thank you for connecting me with my son, because I and all of the family are prevented for security reasons [from visiting him].

Host: “Go ahead, sister, we can convey your voice.”

Mother of Hakim Awad: “My greetings to dear Hakim, the apple of my eye, from the village of Awarta, 17 years old, who carried out the operation in Itamar (i.e., killing of 5 Fogel family members), sentenced to 5 life sentences and another 5 years, in prison.”

Aunt of Hakim Awad: “I’m the sister of prisoner Hassan Awad and of Salah Awad; [I am] Um Habib, from the village of Awarta. My warm greetings to all the great heroic prisoners, to my brother Hassan Awad, head of the village council; to my brother Salah Awad, the heroic prisoner journalist; to the heroic, resolute prisoner, the lion, Yazid Awad, my nephew; and to my nephew Hakim Awad, the hero, the legend.”

Host: “We [PA TV], for our part, also convey our greetings to them.”

Aunt of Hakim Awad: “I dedicate this song to Hassan Awad, Yazid Awad, Hakim Awad, and Salah Awad, in prison:

‘My brother, in solitary confinement, your voice calls to me
You dare not throw down the rifle
That is what the homeland asked of me
In your eyes, we are all self-sacrificing fighters.
I convey greetings to the sound of the bullets of Ahmad Sa’adat and Hakim Awad.’”

Host: “Thank you for being with us, the family of prisoners Hassan and Salah Awad of Awarta.”

Arrow Shocker: "Climate of intolerance" in West Bank

Shocker: "Climate of intolerance" in West Bank

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/...bb342368fdce58

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2012/01/sh...west-bank.html

But... but... that's where the "moderate" guys are. "Climate of intolerance in West Bank, activists say," by Diaa Hadid for the Associated Press, January 30 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) — A Palestinian atheist who was jailed and beaten last year for expressing anti-Muslim views on Facebook and in blogs says Palestinian security forces are harassing him again, despite government pledges to respect human rights.

The blogger's renewed ordeal is part of a persistent climate of intolerance of dissent in the territories controlled by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, say human rights activists. They say they've seen improvements, including a marked decrease in the mistreatment of detainees, but that Abbas' security forces, who are partially funded by the West, must halt harassment and arbitrary detention.

Government spokesman Ghassan Khatib acknowledged occasional lapses, but said that in the past two years, "there's been great progress and success in reducing abuses."
Such promises mean little to atheist blogger Walid Husayin, who has lived in fear of the security forces since being released from a nine-month prison stint last summer.

"I'm sick and tired. My life has come to a halt," the 28-year-old Husayin said in a phone interview from his home in the northern West Bank town of Qalqiliya.

Since his release on bail, he has been picked up several times by security agents and held for days at a time. In one of those detentions, he was beaten with cables and forced to stand in a painful position on empty cans, said Husayin, the son of a Muslim preacher.

Interrogators smashed his two computers and demanded that he stop expressing his views, he said.

Activists from three rights organizations said they witnessed an increase in arbitrary detentions in recent months, including calling in "troublemakers" for repeated interrogation, but said they hadn't yet collated 2011 figures.

Those targeted include loyalists of the Islamic militant Hamas, Abbas' political rival, and supporters of Hezb al-Tahrir, or the "Liberation Party," a puritan Islamic movement considered apolitical.

The increased pressure on dissent coincides with pro-democracy uprisings of the Mideast Arab Spring, but it's not clear if there is a direct link. Anti-government demonstrations in the West Bank usually draw just a few dozen or few hundred people, tiny compared to protests that toppled rulers in Egypt, Libya and Tunisia over the past year.

There appears to be little popular sympathy for those targeted in the crackdown, said Jamil Rabah, an independent Palestinian pollster.

In Gaza, ruled by the Islamic Hamas since a violent takeover in 2007, the Islamists appear to dealing even more harshly with critics, particularly on religious matters.

In both territories, those who violate social norms find themselves in the crosshairs. In Gaza, Hamas recently banned a televised amateur singing contest on modesty grounds because it included female contestants.

In the West Bank, Palestinian-American comedian Maysoon Zayid said her husband was roughed up and lightly hurt last fall after she mocked Palestinian officials in a skit.

Witnesses identified the assailants as plainclothes security men, said Zayid, a contributor to "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" on Current TV, a U.S. cable show.

She said it was the first attempt at intimidation after years of West Bank performances.

"I feel like the Palestinian Authority is going backward," said Zayid, a resident of Cliffside Park, New Jersey. "That is not the state I am fighting for."...

Palestinian kids are “fertilizer,” created to saturate the land with blood

by Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik
Jan. 31, 2012
http://www.palwatch.org/main.aspx?fi=157&doc_id=6255

Palestinian kids created as "fertilizer,"to saturate the land with blood

Fatah: "Our children... were created to be fertilizer for the land of Palestine, and for our pure land to be saturated with their blood"

PA children sing: "My pure land, I shall saturate you with my blood... redeem you with my life"

by Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik

Dying for the sake of "Palestine" as an ideal, even for Palestinian children and youth, remains part of Palestinian discourse.

This week, official Palestinian Authority TV reported from a Fatah celebration in a refugee camp in Lebanon and chose to focus on the following slide shown at the celebration. Fatah's message was that children are created so that their blood will be "fertilizer" to saturate the land:

"Our children are our glory and honor,
they were created to be fertilizer for the land of Palestine,
and for our pure land to be saturated with their blood."

Earlier this month, a PA-Fatah celebration in Ramallah featured a performance with the same message. In front of senior PA leaders, including Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, young children and youth performed a song that included the following words:
"My pure land, I shall saturate you with my blood...
redeem you with my life."

Palestinian Media Watch has reported extensively on the PA's teaching of children to die as Martyrs for "Palestine." During the PA's terror campaign (the "Intifada," 2000-2005), the PA encouraged children to aspire for Martyrdom death as a central part of its message to children. Today, the message that children should die for "Palestine" is less prominent, but still found in PA schoolbooks and is expressed in cultural settings through song and dance.

During the terror campaign, PA TV videos presented martyrdom death for children as "sweet." One PA TV music video broadcast hundreds of times from 2001 to 2004, showed a young boy falling dead on the ground to the words: "How sweet is Shahada (Martyrdom), when I am embraced by you, my land!"

As a result, children presented death for kids as "sweet" in TV interviews. In 2002, at the height of the terror campaign, an 11-year-old Palestinian girl said on PA TV: "Of course Shahada is sweet. We don't want this world, we want the Afterlife."

As a result of the many years of PA urging children to become Martyrs, Palestinian adults and children still see Martyrdom death as an ideal. Parents speak with honor of their "heroic" children who fell as Martyrs, and children talk of becoming Martyrs.

The following is the text displayed at a Fatah event in a refugee camp in Lebanon, shown on PA TV:

PA TV narrator: "In the refugee camp Ein Al-Hilwe [in Lebanon], a rally was held in celebration of the [47th] anniversary [of Fatah]. A political symposium was also held on the occasion of the event."

Text on slide at event: "Our children are our honor and glory,
they were created to be fertilizer for the land of Palestine,
and for our pure land to be saturated with their blood"
[PA TV (Fatah), Jan, 24, 2012]

The following is an excerpt of a song performed by children at an event marking the 47th anniversary of the Fatah movement. PA leaders applaud kids sing "I shall saturate you with my blood... redeem you with my life":

Present at the ceremony: Prime Minister Salam Fayyad; Secretary General of the Presidential Office, Al-Tayeb Abd Al-Rahim; Secretary of the PLO Executive Council, Yasser Abd Rabbo; District Governor of Ramallah and El-Bireh Laila Ghannam; Fatah spokesman Ahmed Assaf.

Song by the Raji'in group (children and youth):

"How beautiful you are, my country
The love in my heart for you is great
You have brought up and educated
generation after generation,
You waited patiently and discovered your heroic children
Oh, my pure land, I shall saturate you with my blood
I shall live and die upon your green ground
Your ground satiates us, your goodness satisfies us
I shall redeem you with my life, oh my land
Your embrace warms us
Your ground satiates us, your goodness satisfies us
I shall redeem you with my life, oh my land
Your embrace warms us"
(emphasis added)

Applause by PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, Secretary General of the President's office Tayeb Abd Al-Rahim and PLO Secretary General Yasser Abd Rabbo.

Marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day: This Past Year's Research from the Tom Lantos Archives on Antisemitism and Holocaust Denial

Seven years ago, the United Nations General Assembly designated January 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The Tom Lantos Archives on Anti-Semitism and Holocaust Denial, launched in 2009, is the world's foremost resource on this subject, serving legislators, policymakers, and researchers around the world.

The dedication of the Archives, and MEMRI's annual Capitol Hill event commemorating the dedication, have been attended by leading members of Congress. The following are some of their statements on these occasions:

"In April of 1945, after inspecting the newly liberated Ohrdruf concentration camp near Weimar, Germany, General Dwight D. 'Ike' Eisenhower ordered all available American troops to go and witness the horrors he'd just seen. He also forced German citizens and officials from nearby towns to do the same… He understood that there must be a record, first-hand evidence, and incontrovertible answers to those who would deny the Holocaust. Ike's example is reflected in the work of the Middle East Media Research Institute. The institute's Antisemitism & Documentation Project provides clear, analytical monitoring of modern antisemitism so that today's injustices may be confronted in the clear light of truth…"

-John Boehner, Speaker of the House of Representatives, July 27, 2011
"I have never met a child two years old who hates anybody. It is taught. That is one of the great things we need to prevent from happening… In 2002, you may remember Tom hosted an event where they raised awareness about MEMRI's translation of a 41-part television series that was based on all of the worst stereotypes of the Jewish people… It is a marvelous initiative [the Archives]… MEMRI is to be commended for its continued efforts."

-Senator John Kerry, April 22, 2010
"With his example, brilliance, eloquence, commitment, and dedication, Tom Lantos left us a legacy and a responsibility, and that is why his cause is now our cause, and that is why his work –the work of the Lantos Antisemitism and Holocaust Denial Archives – is so important to all of us."

-Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, April 22, 2009
"I cannot think of a more fitting occasion on which to unveil the effort of the Lantos Foundation and the archives in connection with the work – the tremendous work that MEMRI does on behalf of peace, on behalf of justice, and on behalf of human rights."

-House Minority Whip Eric Cantor, April 22, 2009
The following are reports from the past year from MEMRI's Tom Lantos Archives on Antisemitism and Holocaust Denial.

Planting Trees is Racist?!

An international campaign wants to stop a non-profit environmental organization that has been functioning for more than 100 years by purporting fallacies and anti-Israel propaganda.

The Jewish National Fund (JNF) was established with the hope to help the birth of the State of Israel. JNF plants trees for forest development in Israel, creates parks, battles forest fires, is responsible for soil conservation, pioneers innovative solutions to help Israel's water supply, among other notable work.

The "Stop the JNF Campaign" alleges that the Jewish National Fund "was instrumental in the ethnic cleansing of Palestine in the 1948 Nakba, and continues to play a central role in maintaining Israel's regime of apartheid." It calls for the revocation of JNF's charity and to isolate the group by breaking all ties with it.

The campaign posted an action alert on its website last Friday asking its readers not to support JNF's "Green Sunday" on Feb. 5. "Don't be taken in," the alert reads. "The JNF's tree planting is a cover for ethnic cleansing."

Despite its shrill and nonsensical premise, the "Stop the JNF Campaign" has garnered support from organizations across the United States, the United Kingdom and other countries around the world. It also has spread to American and Canadian college campuses.

Vilifying labels such as "ethnic cleansing" and "regime of apartheid" are used by anti-Israel activists to demonize the State of Israel. Hebrew University Professor Emeritus Gideon Shimoni has explained that the false equation between Israel and apartheid in South Africa is a "deceptive device [which] functions much like use of the term 'holocaust' to describe any and all human disasters. It obscures apartheid's constitutive core, racism, as well as its actual historical context, South Africa."

The false notion that Israel engaged in "ethnic cleansing" of Palestinians cheapens actual cases of ethnic cleansing, including the Bosnian genocide committed by Bosnian Serbs, the ethnic cleansing of Armenians during World War I, Nazi Germany's persecutions and expulsions of Jews which culminated into the Holocaust, the Sudanese campaign against black ethnic groups in Darfur, among many other examples.

A look at the founders of the Stop the JNF Campaign helps explain its outrageous agenda. It was started by the Habitat International Coalition (HIC), the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network (IJAN), the Scottish Solidarity Campaign (SPSC) and the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee (BNC).

IJAN is a radical organization that advocates the destruction of Israel as a Jewish state. The organization was a sponsor of last year's "Never Again For Anyone" tour across the U.S. and in Toronto, Canada, which featured speakers who equated Israel's treatment of the Palestinians to that of the Nazis' treatment of Jews during the Holocaust.

The Scottish Solidarity Campaign (SPSC) is a fringe anti-Israel organization that repeatedly uses the Holocaust to demonize Israel and has served as a platform for Holocaust deniers and Hamas supporters. The chairman of SPSC, Mick Napier, tried to justify a horrific terrorist attack in Israel by spewing lies about the school that was targeted and writing, "Palestinians continue to resist and we should be inspired by their courage, fortitude and endurance against an enemy that threatens them openly with a 'Holocaust'." In March 2008, a terrorist entered the Mercaz Harav yeshiva in Jerusalem and opened fire, killing eight students and wounding nine more. The massacre was praised by Hamas and supported by 84% of Palestinians, according to a poll taken shortly after.

BNC is the Palestinian coordinating body for the worldwide Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign. BDS is a worldwide initiative to encourage companies, consumers, universities, cultural centers and more to boycott and divest from all Israeli interests and bodies. On college campuses, BDS often takes the form of student groups and professors pushing for universities to divest from companies that have holdings with Israel or do business with Israel.

The Stop the JNF Campaign is one initiative of the worldwide BDS campaign. Its launch last March was announced on the BDS website. BDS leaders, such as Omar Barghouti, single out Israel, apply double standards to the state, and often use the "apartheid" myth and false "ethnic cleansing" charge.

Canadian Foreign Minister John Bard criticized "the constant barrage of rhetorical demonization, double standards and delegitimization" of Israel as the "new anti-Semitism" on Monday during a conference in Israel. "Harnessing disparate anti- Semitic, anti-American and anti-Western ideologies, it targets the Jewish people by targeting the Jewish homeland, Israel, as the source of injustice and conflict in the world, and uses, perversely, the language of human rights to do so," he added. "We must be relentless in exposing this new anti-Semitism for what it is."

Last July, Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd visited an Israeli-owned business in Melbourne after it was attacked by demonstrators. "I don't think in 21st-century Australia there is a place for the attempted boycott of a Jewish business," Rudd said. "I thought we had learned that from history," he added.

Unfortunately, the BDS campaign is gaining ground among youth in the United States. This weekend, the 2012 National BDS Conference is being held at the University of Pennsylvania. The conference is organized by PennBDS, a recognized student group at the University. The university is not sanctioning nor sponsoring the conference.

BDS tactics have not achieved many practical results, and seem more symbolic in nature. This holds true for the Stop the JNF Campaign. Just last week Israel's Ministry of Environmental Protection in cooperation with the Jewish National Fund held an international conference on Climate Change & Forest Fires in the Mediterranean Basin: Management & Risk Reduction. The conference drew approximately 150 participants including lecturers and guests from Jordan, Kosovo, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Canada and the U.S. Additionally, JNF maintains partnerships with government and professional organizations in the United States, Egypt and Jordan.

If planting trees has become an act of evil, it may be time to re-evaluate your thinking.

Exclamation Peace Process Lies

Peace Process Lies
How the Palestinians turned peace rejectionism into a science
by David Meir-Levi

Most of FrontPage Magazine’s readers already know that U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta yelled at the wrong guy in early December, 2011, when he scolded Netanyahu with his misplaced adjuration: “just get to the damn table.” But it will still be useful to take a quick look at the many times that Israeli leaders have invited Arab leaders to that “damn table” and have been rebuffed, in word and in deed, by Arab leaders.

For a summary of the 31 times since 1937 that Arab leaders have not only refused Israeli offers of peace, but have responded with war, terrorist attacks, and threats of genocide and annihilation, see two earlier articles by the present writer, here and here.

Over the past few years, there has emerged a new and different pattern that, while obvious and transparent, has not made much of an impression on Secretary Panetta or other of the USA’s or EU’s spokespersons.

This new pattern is: PA President Mahmoud Abbas creates pre-conditions for negotiations that he knows Israel cannot accept. Then he refuses to join in negotiations that are open-ended and without pre-conditions.

Then he blames Israel for its refusal to agree to his unacceptable pre-conditions. Then Western leaders and journalists blame Israel for the “log jam” in negotiations. In June 20091, shortly after he formed his coalition government, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called publicly for direct negotiations toward a two-state solution. A PA spokesperson, speaking on behalf of President Abbas, declared the PA’s refusal to respond to Netanyahu’s invitation.

In November, 2009, Israel implemented its 10-month “settlement” construction freeze as a compromise response to US President Obama’s demands and called upon Abbas to join him “in meaningful peace negotiations…that will finally end the conflict.” Abbas again rejected Netanyahu’s invitation, first insisting that he would wait until the construction freeze was over before he would consider joining Netanyahu in negotiations; but then, when the 10-month freeze drew to an end, he threatening that he would not meet with Netanyahu unless the Israeli prime minister continue the freeze and extend it to include East Jerusalem, which had been excluded from the original freeze agreement.

In February 2011, Netanyahu again called for a resumption of negotiations, and made some goodwill gestures to enhance the Palestinian economy. Not only did Abbas rebuff these gestures, but he announced his intention to side-step negotiations with Israel and take his case for Palestinian statehood to the UN despite President Obama’s objections.

In May 2011, Netanyahu again offered to restart negotiations for a two-state solution and promised significant territorial concessions. Abbas ignored Netanyahu, President Obama, and even the loss of $200 million in American aid; and instead he wrote his infamous op-ed essay in the New York Times in which he promised that even when “Palestine” becomes the 194th state in the UN, the conflict would not be over. The new state of “Palestine,” once it became the 194th member of the UN’s family of nations, would pursue political avenues of redress against Israel at the UN, the International Court of Justice and other human rights milieus.

In September 2011, at his speech before the UN General Assembly, Netanyahu renewed his invitation to Abbas. Abbas refused the offer and instead pressed on with his ultimately unsuccessful attempt at UN recognition of a Palestinian state.

Even Netanyahu’s “economic peace” plan of September 2009, that would have helped return the West Bank to the economic prosperity that it enjoyed during most of the pre-Oslo era from 1967 to 2004, was summarily dismissed by Abbas because it demanded that the PA put a stop to terror attacks emanating from the West Bank. Abbas rejected it, saying that: “We refuse to be security agents for Israel.” In other words, the PA prefers to tolerate, and therefore encourage, terror attacks against Israel rather than engage in cooperation with Israel that will economically benefit the Arabs of the West Bank.

Israel’s refusal to accommodate Palestinian pre-conditions is rational and politically sound. If Israel were to agree in advance to:
  • A complete cessation of all Israeli construction anywhere over the so-called “green line,” including east Jerusalem ( a growing family cannot add a bathroom, villages or towns cannot build housing , schools or even preschools to accommodate local natural growth);
  • ceding of all of the West Bank to the PA and forcibly removing hundreds of thousands of Israelis from their homes; and
  • acquiescence to the PA’s “Haq el-Awda” (The “right of return”) flooding Israel with millions of Arabs claiming refugee status and their descendents; then
Israel would be making enormous, costly, and dangerous concessions in advance of any PA agreements. But equally important, if one side acquiesces to all of the other side’s demands before negotiations even begin, then what are they negotiating about? The very idea of such pre-conditions renders negotiations meaningless.

It is important to point out that Israel has demands of its own; but these are not pre-conditions to negotiations, they are desired ends of negotiations.

Perhaps most problematic of all, PA leaders have worked long and hard to find a way to reconcile with Hamas and form a unified PA-Hamas strategy for what they call “popular resistance,” which Israel understands to mean renewed terrorism and a third Intifada.

Re-unification with Hamas poses the greatest threat to Israel. Hamas has been unrelenting in its commitment to an endless war against Israel, “until victory or martyrdom.” Hamas has also consistently refused any possibility of compromises with Israel, as well as any diplomatic process and any interaction that might end in peace and a cessation of hostilities.

Polls and other reports indicate that Hamas enjoys much popularity on the West Bank that it, and therefore its agenda items and priorities, could become the dominant force in the West Bank if Hamas and the PA were united there. Israel has made it clear that it will not allow the West Bank to become another Hamastan, a massive launching pad for terrorism, for qasam rockets, and a new and improved training ground for the world’s worst terrorist murderers. But the PA is forced into this strategy of re-unification with Hamas because without Hamas it loses credibility as an active participant in the 75-year-long genocidal war against Israel. El-qaeda and Hamas have condemned Abbas as a collaborator with Israel because he has made the mere pretense of willingness to negotiate. Abbas needs that credibility in order to continue benefiting from the largesse of Arab confrontation states and Iran.

So the PA must insist to its own constituency that it is refusing to negotiate, while representing to the USA and EU that it is Israel which is obstructing even indirect talks. This charade was exposed by the Quartet recently when Abbas and Sa’eb Erekat, a senior PA negotiator, demanded that the Quartet serve as a conduit for the communication of PA proposals, because the PA leaders were unwilling to meet directly with Israeli leaders. To their credit, Quartet officials refused to support the PA in this endeavor to circumvent direct talks, and told Abbas: “If you have something to say to the Israelis, you should give it to them directly.”

The latest attempt to get PA leaders to the negotiating table, this time in early January in Amman, foundered at the very onset.

Palestinian representatives demanded that the talks be termed “exploratory talks” and not “peace talks,” and clashes about protocol and delegation participants moved the Palestinian side to refuse to even enter the same room with the Israelis. By all accounts the talks produced little, and the Palestinian side early on announced its decision to terminate them at the end of January. As this last in a long series of failed talks drew to a close on January 26, a new wave of terror attacks began in the West Bank, with daily attacks on individual Israeli motorists driving in the West Bank and the death of a father and son murdered on the main highway between Hebron and Jerusalem.

Mr. Panetta take note: Israel is already seated at that “damn table” but “peace” and “negotiations” are simply not in the PA’s vocabulary.

Exclamation Documenting Palestinian Criminality (Jerusalem Post)

Documenting Palestinian Criminality (Jerusalem Post)
The glorification of terror "beg the question of whether genuine peace process was ever intended."
By ISI LEIBLER

We are told, day after day, that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is a genuine moderate committed to achieving a peace settlement with Israel. In addition to the international community, even some Israelis – admittedly a dwindling minority – also chant this mantra.

Abbas and his chief negotiator, Saeb Erekat, bolster this theme by uttering soothing statements in English, endorsing peace to the gullible international community. Yet they speak with forked tongues because in Arabic, to their own people, they deny Israel’s right to exist and promote vicious hatred against Jews.

They also claim to have reneged violence. But the PA never conceded that terrorism was immoral. They simply concluded that having failed to achieve their objectives by violence, their goals could best be promoted by temporarily suspending terrorism in order to gain Western support.

Abbas made it clear that he “had the honor of firing the first shot in 1965” and was only opposed to terrorist attacks “at this time” for tactical reasons and that “in the future things may change.”

Yet, even within this framework, Fatah has still succeeded in killing more Israelis than Hamas.

The true objectives of the PA are reflected in the poisonous hatred against Jews and Israel inculcated into their people through the broad range of institutions they control, permeating every level of society– from kindergarten upwards.

This can be traced to the very inception of the Oslo Accords. Before that, the relationship between Palestinians and Israelis, while far from ideal, was certainly better than it is now; current polls indicate that 84 percent of Palestinians endorse the murder of Israelis.

In addition to denying Jewish sovereignty, the PA from the outset indulged in the most horrendous demonization, describing Jews as the descendants of apes and pigs, comparing them to Nazis while simultaneously praising Hitler, accusing them of stealing Palestinian body parts, using human blood during Passover, promoting AIDs and many other loathsome blood libels.

This defamatory torrent impacts directly on Israel’s diminished standing in the international community.

In response to this, an important book compiled by Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik titled Deception: Betraying the Peace Process, has just been released. It meticulously documents the poisonous behavior of the Palestinian Authority during 2010 and 2011 throughout the broad range of institutions they control. It will become an important source for pro-Israeli activists and provide irrefutable evidence in response to those denying the criminality pervading Palestinian society.

Itamar Marcus founded Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) in 1996 as a nonprofit organization to monitor the Palestinian media. Its documentation of Palestinian behavior, including systematically taping official Palestinian TV, became an important source for parliamentarians and serious journalists throughout the world. His briefing of US legislators was a major factor contributing toward the prevailing pro-Israel orientation of Congress and the American people.

The book and the PMW website chronicle obscene examples of incitement, especially in the wake of the release of the terrorists in the Schalit exchange. Chairman Abbas, who publicly embraced these mass murderers, summed up the PA approach when he stated “every prisoner is for us a saint and we must exalt him.”

He subsequently appointed Mahmoud Damra, a notorious terrorist, as his advisor. The state-controlled Palestinian media sanctified the murders committed by the released terrorists. Thus Ahlam Tamimi, the woman who orchestrated the suicide bombing at the Jerusalem Sbarro restaurant which killed 22 civilians including seven children, was quoted proudly proclaiming she would do it again; Abbas al-Sayed who perpetrated the Passover suicide attack at the Park Hotel in Netanya which killed 30 Israelis was described by Abbas as a “hero” and “symbol of the Palestinian Authority.”

Only recently, while commemorating the 47th anniversary of Fatah, the Mufti Muhammad Hussein, the PA’s highest religious authority, appointed by Abbas, proclaimed that the killing of Jews was a major Islamic goal required before the Islamic Resurrection. The moderator introducing him reiterated that “our war against the descendants of apes and pigs is a war of religion and faith.”

Just last week PMW reported how official PA TV conveyed “greetings” to Hakim Awad, the barbaric and unrepentant murderer of the Fogel family, which included a four-month-old infant and children aged three and 11 years. His mother was honored on the program and conveyed “greetings to dear Hakim, the apple of my eye, who carried out the operation in Itamar, sentenced to five life sentences.”

His aunt also related to “Hakim Awad, the hero, the legend.” How can people claiming to be promoting human rights conceivably associate themselves with a regime which adulates such monsters on its controlled TV outlets?

The book itself provides chilling documentation demonstrating how an entire generation is being brainwashed into absorbing a culture of death and slaughter. The Palestinian children’s programs promoting hatred and evil are incorporated into textbooks, music videos and summer camps, all blatantly indoctrinating children with the sanctity of shahada (martyrdom) and murder of Jews.

Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, purportedly the most moderate of all Palestinian leaders, is cited for his speech praising four terrorists and sponsoring of a Palestinian children’s summer camp in which the participants were divided into groups labeled with the names of terrorists, including a notorious bus hijacker.

Marcus and Zilberdik point out how, in the course of one day, a Palestinian child can walk on a street named after the mass murderer Abu Jihad, to a school named after the founder of Hamas, where he will read hate-filled textbooks, work in a computer room named after a suicide bomber, spend the afternoon at a soccer tournament with the teams named after suicide bombers, go in the evening to the Abu Iyad community center, the orchestrator of the massacre of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics, and finally return home to view anti-Semitic cartoons on TV before going to bed.

After reading this book, a number of questions come to mind.

The US Congress was considering terminating the funding of the PA general budget unless it terminated incitement, glorification of suicide bombers as heroic role models, payment of over $5 million a month for “salaries” to 5,500 terrorists in Israeli prisons, and pensions to the families of terrorists. Why did Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu ask them to desist? Why does Prime Minister Netanyahu so frequently pay lip service to Abbas as a peace partner and, other than very recently, fail to systematically highlight the criminality of the Palestinian leaders?

If our prime minister agreed not to publicly highlight these evils in order to placate President Barack Obama, we are likely to pay a bitter price. If the civilized world is made aware of the culture of death and hatred which permeates Palestinian society, we would be in a far stronger position in the ongoing war of ideas.

And finally, how can President Obama and Western countries justify their repeated vitriolic condemnations of Israeli construction in Jewish suburbs of Jerusalem and yet have so little to say about a society which indoctrinates its children with such a barbaric worldview? How can Secretary of State Hillary Clinton validate her silence over these issues after having so passionately condemned Palestinian incitement against Israel when she was a Senator?

After reviewing these horrific texts, which document such a savage, officially-imposed jihadi culture, it is surely delusional to view the current Palestinian leadership as peace partners. Such a calculated policy of deception reflected by the disparity between reality and duplicitous statements designed for foreign consumption is not merely an expression of malice. It is a manifestation of a determined policy to poison the people against any possible accommodation with Israel. It provides a devastating response to the question raised in the introduction to the book. Was a genuine peace process ever intended?

Qaradawi meets with Hamas, says "victory is near and at the door"

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2012/02/qa...-the-door.html

Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi has been praised by Saudi-funded dhimmi pseudo-academic John Esposito as a champion of a “reformist interpretation of Islam and its relationship to democracy, pluralism and human rights.” But numerous statements of Qaradawi demonstrate that he anything but a “reformist” or a genuine champion of “democracy, pluralism and human rights” – and is, in fact, positively Hitlerian in his Jew-hatred and bloodlust.

During the uprising against the Mubarak regime, a Muslim website published a chapter from Qaradawi’s book Laws of Jihad, including this passage: “One of the forms of jihad in Islam is jihad against evil and corruption within [the Islamic lands]. This jihad is crucial in order to protect society from collapse, disintegration, and perdition — for Muslim society has unique characteristics, and if these are lost, forgotten or destroyed, there will be no Muslim society.”

Qaradawi also enjoys a reputation as a moderate beyond just Esposito: the former Ground Zero mosque imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, who is himself widely assumed to be a “moderate” despite evidence to the contrary, has hailed Qaradawi as a “very very well known Islamic jurist, highly regarded all over the Muslim world.” And another Muslim leader whose moderate bona fides have been questioned, the vaunted “Muslim Martin Luther” Tariq Ramadan, wrote a foreword to one of his books in 1998, and former London Mayor Ken Livingstone welcomed him to the city in 2004 and praised him repeatedly, despite the fact that during that visit Qaradawi explained to the BBC that suicide attacks against Israelis were not actually suicide at all, but “martyrdom in the name of God.” (Qaradawi has since been banned from Britain, as well as from the U.S.)

And the things that Qaradawi tells the millions of Muslims that he reaches are anything but moderate. In January 2009, during a Friday sermon broadcast on Al-Jazeera, he prayed that Allah would kill all the Jews: “Oh Allah, take this oppressive, Jewish, Zionist band of people. Oh Allah, do not spare a single one of them. Oh Allah, count their numbers, and kill them, down to the very last one.” He also declared: “Throughout history, Allah has imposed upon the [Jews] people who would punish them for their corruption. The last punishment was carried out by [Adolf] Hitler.”
Oh, and he is a mediator for the U.S. Government.

"Qaradawi Meets Hamas Leaders, Predicts 'Victory,'" from IPT News, February 8:
A Hamas delegation headed by the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of Gaza met Yusuf al Qaradawi, the highly influential Muslim Brotherhood theologian, in Qatar Saturday. In the love fest which followed, as reported on Qaradawi's website, "His Eminence also gave the people of Gaza and Palestine the good news that victory is near and at the door."

Along with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, the delegation included Yehya Al-Sinwar, a top security strategist, and his deputy Rawhi Mushtaha, recently released from long terms in Israeli prison as part of the prisoner swap. They invited Qaradawi to visit Gaza, where he could broadcast over Hamas's media outlet, al Aqsa TV. They also prayed that God would extend the Sheikh's life to allow him to pray alongside them in Jerusalem's Al Aqsa Mosque....

In a 2009 speech before the Arab Spring Qaradawi was less optimistic and merely hoped to die fighting the Jews: I'd like to say that the only thing I hope for is that as my life approaches its end, Allah will give me an opportunity to go to the land of Jihad and resistance, even if in a wheelchair. I will shoot Allah's enemies, the Jews, and they will throw a bomb at me, and thus, I will seal my life with martyrdom."

Fatah has chosen to use its official Facebook page to glorify terrorists.

Fatah's page currently displays a poster with the pictures of 8 terrorists who carried out a terror attack on the Savoy Hotel in Tel Aviv in 1975, that was posted by the Fatah administrator.

8 Israeli civilians and 3 soldiers were killed in the attack.

Text on poster: "The Tel Aviv operation, March 6, 1975
The Palestinian passage to the homeland"

The text under each terrorist's picture reads: "The heroic Shahid (Martyr)" followed by the terrorist's name.

[Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 1, 2012]

Note that the poster on Fatah's Facebook page also includes the visual representation of a map of "Palestine" which in addition to PA areas includes all of Israel.

Gaza top dog in Tehran: Hamas "will never recognize Israel"

http://www.egyptindependent.com/node/650306

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2012/02/ga...ze-israel.html

And Hamas is forming a unity government with Fatah, which the Obama Administration regards as the moderate faction to which Israel must make concessions in order to bring about peace. "Gaza premier: Hamas 'will never recognise Israel,'" from AFP, February 11:
Hamas "will never recognise Israel," Gaza Prime Minister Ismail Haniya said Saturday in a speech in Iran that is likely to complicate Palestinian efforts to form a unity government in the teeth of opposition from the Jewish state.

"They want us to recognise the Israeli occupation and cease resistance but, as the representative of the Palestinan people and in the name of all the world's freedom seekers, I am announcing from Azadi Square in Tehran that we will never recognise Israel," Haniya said.

"The resistance will continue until all Palestinian land, including Al-Quds (Jerusalem), has been liberated and all the refugees have returned," he said.

Haniya's reiteration of Hamas's long-held stance was made on the occasion of Iran's commemoration of its 1979 Islamic revolution.

The Gaza leader spoke to an estimated crowd of 30,000 from a stage alongside Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
"The Iranian people are a partner in this victory," Haniya said. "God willing, we will met you along with other Palestinians in a free Palestine, in its capital Al-Quds," he said.

Israel rejects efforts by Hamas to link up with Fatah, the secular faction of Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas that runs the West Bank, to form a unity government. It views Hamas as a terrorist organisation and Iran as its sponsor and weapon supplier.

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman told UN envoys on Thursday that a Hamas-Fatah accord signed this week to partner in the new government "does not contribute to the advancement of peace negotiations or the well-being of the Palestinian people."...
No kidding, really?

Iran Offers Aid to Palestinian Authority to Defeat Israel
Iran tells Gaza’s Hamas leader Haniyeh it is offering “scientific and technological experience” to the PA for a “victory” over Israel.
By Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu

Iran has used the visit of Gaza’s Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh to offer “scientific and technological experience” to the PA for a “victory” over Israel.

Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi told Haniyeh Saturday of “the need for Palestinian adherence to the basic principles of resistance as the key ingredient for their victory against Israel,” according to the official Iranian PRESS TV news agency. Haniyeh replied, “Muslims through full unity and with the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran will liberate Al Aqsa mosque [on the Temple Mount] in the future.”

Haniyeh is in Iran for the 33rd anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in 1979 and is trying to shore up badly needed financial support as well as outflank PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, head of the largely secular and rival Fatah party.

The two factions signed an agreement in Doha last week for a new unity government headed by Abbas and without PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad. Abbas is risking financial support from the European Union by joining Hamas without demanding that it reject terror and that it recognize Israel, although Abbas himself has not done so formally.

Iran’s offer of “scientific” assistance to the Palestinian Authority underlines the shared and stated objective of Iran and Hamas to destroy Israel.

A rejection of Iran by Abbas could throw the Palestinian Authority into further disarray, while accepting the Hamas-Iran alliance would clearly make Abbas an outcast even to the appeasement-minded European Union. Nearly two years ago, Abbas rejected advice from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and PA spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh said, "He who does not represent the Iranian people, who forged elections and who suppresses the Iranian people and stole the authority, is not entitled to talk about Palestine, or the President of Palestine.

Iran and Hamas’s supreme leader Khaled Mashaal’s have been at odds with Haniyeh for not siding with its support for Syrian President Bashar Assad. The financial problems of Hamas in Gaza are attributed as the reason for Haniyeh's visiting Tehran.

Gaza terrorists fired a short-range Qassam rocket attack at southern Israel Saturday night. The missile landed in the Eshkol Regional Council district, in an open area.

The impact occurred less than a minute after the Color Red rocket alert siren sounded, warning residents to seek shelter from the impending attack.

No one was physically injured and there were no reports of property damage.

On Friday night, the peace of a family's Sabbath evening was also shattered when the Color Red rocket alert siren failed to activate in the Hof Ashkelon Coastal Region district.

A Grad Katyusha rocket attack blew open a small crater between two homes in the area, spraying shrapnel in all directions.

A nearby electric pole was damaged, cutting power to both homes. The shrapnel also penetrated the walls of at least one of the houses as residents were sitting in the living room enjoying the evening.

By a miracle, no one was physically injured in the attack.

Gaza terrorists claimed the attack was launched in response to israeli gunfire near Beit Lahiyeh. The IDF allegedly retaliated for Gaza terror attacks on southern Israel earlier in the week, with gunfire having wounded an Islamic Jihad terrorist. An IDF spokeswoman denied knowledge of the incident.

Two Gaza terrorists have been indicted for plotting to kill IDF soldiers and then expecting to be jailed so they could “earn” PA salaries for terror.
The two men, Salam Alsufi and Ra'ami Tayima were charged in a Be’er Sheva court on several counts of terrorist activity, including manning a terrorist outpost in Gaza to maintain surveillance of movements of IDF soldiers and kill them if they entered Gaza.

They also were charged with weapons violations, plotting to murder, holding membership in illegal terrorist groups and maintaining contact with enemy agents.

The terrorists worked with Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and wanted to be arrested in Israeli after carrying out an attack so they could collect the monthly stipend provided by the Palestinian Authority for prisoners in Israeli jails. The PA maintains its budget with the help of funds from the United States and the European Union.

They were arrested after being caught when they cut through the Gaza security fence.

Alsufi had maintained surveillance of IDF troop movements at a terrorist outpost near a Gaza crossing.

Tayima was indicted for participating in terrorist training camps and digging tunnels in Rafiah, which straddles the border with Egypt, with the intention of smuggling weapons into Gaza.

Senior Hamas Leader Slams Agreement with Fatah
Senior Hamas official Mahmud al-Zahar says agreement with Fatah is a mistake and that no one inside Hamas was consulted.

Senior Hamas official Mahmoud al-Zahar has slammed the reconciliation deal between his terror group and Fatah, saying it was a “mistake," AFP reported.

The report quoted an interview al-Zahar gave to Egypt’s official MENA agency, in which said the decision to have PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas head the unity government “is a mistake”. He added, “No one inside the Hamas movement was consulted.”

The agreement was signed last week in Doha. It calls for Abbas to head an interim government, which will be made up of "independent technocrats." The new PA interim government is to be presented on February 18 in Cairo.

Al-Zahar, however, told MENA, the agreement “practically cannot be implemented,” adding, “If the consultations took place among the small circle around the political bureau (headed by Hamas’ politburo chief Khaled Mashaal abroad), then this is unacceptable.”

He added that the agreement “needs to be reviewed, so Hamas leaders at home and abroad will meet over the issue in the coming two days.”
Al-Zahar said that after a series of discussions with Hamas officials and MPs “we found that many feel there is a real crisis.” He added that the sweeping Hamas victory in 2006 the parliamentary elections meant there was no reason to make concessions to Fatah.

“The people chose Hamas and rejected Fatah’s program,” al-Zahar was quoted as having said. “How can we at the last minute come and say that the Fatah program proved to be a success and Hamas failed?”

“In fact,” he added, “the reality is that the Hamas program proved to be a success, with the Arab Spring and the Arab and Islamic opening in the region breaking the political embargo on Gaza.”

Al-Zahar's comments seem to confirm recent analyses that the unity agreement with Fatah is causing a split within Hamas. Recent reports indicated that a new camp within Hamas is interested in ending the terror group’s relationship with Iran.

This week it was reported that Gulf Arab nations were pressuring the group’s Prime Minister, Ismail Haniyeh to cancel his trip to Tehran, warning him that his trip could cost him financial aid from countries such as Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar.

Mashaal, meanwhile, has reportedly completely abandoned Hamas’ bureau in Syria and will be setting up shop in Qatar.
