Israel’s South Sustains Worst Bombing in 4 Years, IDF Strikes Back

Israeli communities surrounding the Gaza Strip were subjected to the worst bombardment by Palestinian terror groups since Operation Protective Edge in the summer of 2014.

By: Max Gelber, United with Israel

Throughout Tuesday and early Wednesday morning, the Gaza-based Hamas and Islamic Jihad terror groups relentlessly fired more than 100 rockets and mortars at Israeli communities surrounding the Strip, one of which exploded in a kindergarten located in the Ein Hashlosha community.

“This attack was a severe, dangerous, and orchestrated act of terror, aimed at Israeli civilians and children,” the IDF stated.

The IDF revealed that some of projectiles launched throughout the Palestinian terror offensive were Iranian-made rockets.

“The Palestinian Islamic Jihad follows the ideology of Iran, is funded by Iran, and in today’s attack, used munitions made by Iran,” the IDF said.

While the majority of the explosive projectiles were intercepted by the Iron Dome aerial defense system or exploded in open spaces, some fell inside Israeli communities and seven Israelis, including three soldiers, were injured in the shelling.

One soldier sustained moderate wounds and required intensive surgery.

Responding to the attacks, Israel Air Force (IAF) fighter jets and attack helicopters overnight struck some 25 military targets belonging to Hamas, the most extensive airstrikes in four years.

The targets included storage structures of drones used for terror purposes, a rocket manufacturing workshop, advanced naval weaponry, military compounds, training facilities, and a munitions manufacturing site.

There were no reports of any Palestinian casualties in the strikes.

IDF Mounts Counterattack

These strikes were in addition to strikes the IAF carried out against military targets belonging to Hamas during the day. A total of 65 terror targets were hit in the past 24 hours.

As part of Tuesday’s strikes, a Hamas terror tunnel was bombed near the Kerem Shalom Crossing. The terror tunnel started in the Gaza Strip, crossed into Egypt, and extended into Israeli territory some 900 meters.

The tunnel was designated for terror purposes and weapons smuggling. It was detected in its construction phase near the Kerem Shalom Crossing, through which humanitarian aid is transferred to Gaza residents. This is the second tunnel detected near the Kerem Shalom Crossing and the tenth tunnel destroyed since October.

“Instead of using humanitarian aid to better the lives of Gazans, Hamas uses the crossing for terror purposes,” the IDF charged.

Hamas “is accountable for activity from the Gaza Strip, and therefore is responsible for the severe attacks that were carried out against Israeli civilians,” the IDF stated.

“The Hamas terror organization again chooses to act against the interest of the residents of the Gaza Strip. After it failed during the violent riots along the security fence, it now chooses to conduct and allow a wide-scale attack against Israeli civilians.

The IDF views the terror activity carried out by the Hamas terror organization with great severity, and will continue to operate in a powerful and determined manner,” the IDF stated.

“The IDF is prepared for a variety of scenarios and is determined to act against terror operatives. The IDF will continue to carry out its mission to protect Israel’s civilians,” it added.

IDF Spokesman Brig. Gen. Ronen Manelis warned of tougher action and said it was up to Hamas to stop the situation from escalating.

“These strikes will continue to intensify as long as necessary if this fire continues,” he told reporters outside Israeli military headquarters.

“Israel will exact a heavy price from those who seek to harm it, and we see Hamas as responsible for preventing such attacks,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.

There needs to be a more severe attack launched by Israel and to hell with the UN. Most of their members are maggots who will blame Israel for any incident happening anywhere in the world.

"Instead of using humanitarian aid to better the lives of Gazans, Hamas uses the crossing for terror purposes,” the IDF charged."

But Israel will rebuild and reopen the Kerem Shalom Crossing nonetheless. Suicidal, though it is, world opinion rules the day, right Israel? Suicidal and insane to continue to allow any goods whatsoever to enter Gaza. We are at war. A war we do not want, did not want, and cannot afford to continue.

Shalom (I wish)

Israel needs to just wipe the planet clean of these violent killers,if these Palestinians had their way they would do no less to every Jew on this planet.....now with the help of the air headed idiot Obama and the UN the “Hate the Jew”campaign has now spilled over to our schools and Universities, this has got to be the most shameful educational policy that anyone could have ever conceived they illegally teach this nonsense about the Koran and completely silent on the Bible.....Great job Mr Obama another one of your policies have come to light and again you have thrown Israel under the bus not to mention all the US taxpayer money that has been funneled into Palestine just for terrorist funding. It kind of reminds you of that killer of all things Jewish Adolf Hitler just a different time place and face but their plans are the same.

They fire rockets at kindergartens and the world blames Israel for responding? It seems that whatever we do, we are always "de shlechter". So why not now do something and respond with fury to actually earn that description.

Israelis abhor the taking of a human life, but they do it with effectiveness when indicated. The Muslims have no hope when they attack Israel - they are finished!

They are not effective enough: There are still 2.5 million of those rats on the loose in Gaza. . .

Why just bomb military targets when the enemy use civilian facilities as weapon storage facilities and use kindergartens as training areas for future terrorists. Bomb these places at night.

Ever notice how Israel tries it's best to avoid civilian casualties and hamas targets them...I guess it's not that hard to notice, since they use their own children as human shields.

Isn't it amazing that Israel responds destroying 25 targets in Gaza and not ONE Gazan is injured or dead?
Do you think you can hear the UN noticing NO casualties after Israeli defensive strikes?Nope.

What comes to mind is Harry Truman’s strategy. Applied to the source: Iran.
Hey it’s not like it didn’t work.

Stanley, good thinking!! Obviously we know position and purpose of every hamas' post, base, office, tunnel, store, shed, hut and tent, down to names of collaborators and phone numbers of their twice removed relatives... We know it all!! So why we don't wipe out all of terrorists logistics and stores and equipment and rockets and drones and weapons and go home to have some well earned cake and tea??

It’s simple the US constitution does not allow us to get involved in religious wars

Most people in the World have a religion they associate with. That doesn’t make aggression a religious one. Hamas and the Gazan violence for the past 30 years, with firing over 4800 rockets into Israel over the recent years, is NOT a religious war. It’s about Arab aggression to kill as many Jews as they can and take over Israel. It’s been going on since the Hebron massacre in 1939!

IDF, end this once and for all. Just like festering wounds are not acceptable and require permanent healing, remove the root cause and achieve (real) peace.

The problem is that the international community accepts Hamas terror against Israel, but condemns Israel for defensive actions.
We have to conclude that the biased anti Israeli international voices are much less relevant than Israel's security. Hence the IDF should act in the interest of Israel, irrespective of the loud condemnations from outside.

The problem is that this is not the way to fight this war. If Gaza is attacking, then destroy Gaza's ability to survive. Strike Hamas and its heads. Strike the electricity and the water. Get total surrender. Then deport them all to Syria. If they rot there, it will no longer be a concern for Israel.
