I don't know how confident, but when you are small and your bullies are big, you have to either buckle under or stand up to them. In the '73 war the Israelis lost many planes to Russian-made Sam-6s in Egyptian hands, but they finally thought up how to deal with them. Hopefully, Israel has or will have some solution to the S300's. Maybe the F-35? Who knows.I hope the IAF knows.

That was 1967. IN 1973 Israel lost over 25% of its air force trying to take out Egyptian SAMs: Wikipedia -
"Official Israeli Air Force losses of the Yom Kippur War number at 102 aircraft, including 32 F-4 Phantoms, 53 A-4 Skyhawks, 11 Dassault Mirages, and 6 IAI Sa'ars, although other accounts suggest as many as 128 Israeli aircraft were lost.[22][23] "

So have Russian SAMs. I remember in 1972 when I was a volunteer on a kibbutz, one young 19 year old kibbutznik who was a company commander bragged to me how the Bar Lev Line along the Canal would stop even a half million Russian soldiers. Need I tell you what happened the following year? Never brag. Never underestimate the enemy. Just do what has to be done with no bragging, before pride comes before the fall.

From Wikipedia -Bar Lev Line
"The Bar Lev Line (Hebrew: קו בר לב‎, Kav Bar Lev; Arabic: خط بارليف‎, Khaṭṭ Barlīf) was a chain of fortifications built by Israel along the eastern coast of the Suez Canal after it captured the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt during the 1967 Six-Day War. It was considered impregnable and was a symbol of Israeli military perfection.[1][2] It was overrun in 1973 by the Egyptian military during Operation Badr.[3]"

Yes, I knew about it in 1969, and I understand the need, but Dayan was right that the main defense line should have been further in at the Mitla pass. Israel lost hundreds of tanks and dozens of planes, and thousands of soldiers due to an a highly touted , but ultimately indefensible line they bragged about and made their public think was impenetrable.

Yes, thanks to some old US Firebee drones that Israel happened to have on hand. They put cameras on those drones to spot exactly where those SAM sites were located, and then Israeli mobile artillery was able to move in and take them out.
That was actually the dawn of the Israeli UAV industry. The US had drones in Vietnam but there unstable, crashed often, and not particularly useful. The So the US gave up on drones just as Israel started up. But the Firebee wasn't that bad.
So once the IDF took out the SAMs protecting the Egyptian forces, the IAF was back in business to do what it does best.

You should also remember the DNC pushed an agenda of appeasement to end the Cold War and men like Bernie Sanders continues to push an agenda of rapprochement with Russia just as he was a major advocate of the Soviet Union. Some scholars actually believed that President Reagan's escalation though it admittedly lead to the end of the Cold War was over kill. And that is hat killed the Soviet from emerging from their decrepit economy and then blamed the failure to develop more progressively on the USA.
That has been a DNC position since Reagan.
There connections and Sanders who actually spent his marital honeymoon behind the Iron Curtain and returned to Burlington VT as America's first socialist Mayor and realigned the Cities sister city from Bethlehem to some destitute Soviet city. And Trump is the one who colluded with Putin?
Sander's was a Soviet tourist when the State Department advised against it because the Soviets were incarcerated political dissidents and giving them electric shocks, and not to glean military intelligence but just to torture them.

Israel has no choice. IF it isn't tough it would get crushed like a bug. Israel today has Jericho III ballistic missiles that can hit Russia. Why does it have such missiles? Because as early as 1956 Khruschev already threatened to hit Israel with missiles if it did not withdraw from the Sinai. So such threats against Israel is nothing new.

Israel has a nuclear triad for many reasons and it’s not just Russia. Israel is completely surrounded by enemies.

As it turned out Eisenhower was the one who forced Israel out of the Sinai. He would later regret this action.

It still takes a lot a balls to stare down Russia.

If you live long enough and I don;t think you will, you hear all kinds of things. But people who reply to my comments with insults and indifferent facts do not deserve a better response.

Both Eisenhower and Khruschev essentially cajoled/threatened Israel to withdraw. Israel refused without a peace treaty from Egypt. But that was not going to happen. So Dulles gave Abba Eban a piece of paper with an American promise that if Nasser tried to blockade Israel again, the US would lead an "international naval armada" to force open any such blockades. Almost exactly a decade later, in May 1967, when Nasser once again blockaded Israel at the straits of Tiran, no "international naval armada" was seen coming, Abba Eban ran to Washington with the paper promise in hand begging the US to live up to it, and to our shame the US at that point bogged down in Vietnam, essentially welshed and left Israel high and dry and all alone. That's when Israel had to launch that now famous, and incredibly successful attack on June 5th that essentially wiped the Egyptian and Syrian air forces out in a matter of hours. Actually, it was the false information given by Russia to Syria and Egypt about a nonexisting Israel build up in the north that led to the crisis that became the Six Day War.

Actually no, Russia is a giant and far stronger than little Israel ,but this is where we live and HERE we are far Stronger. We even have artillery that can easily reach Damascus and far more combat aircraft than they can bring to bear We enjoy air superiority, even supremacy and what a blow to the pride of Putin for his AF bases ,Naval base and Sam batteries to be forced to leave Syria . Every Israeli has access to gas masks and bomb shelters and we produce munitions 24-7. And they would not dare to employ Nukes

The IDF’s main artillery is the M109, it has an effective range of 11 miles which is far short of the 130 plus miles to Damascus. The IDF has a small contingent of M270’s however their effective firing range is around 65 miles. The remainder of your commentary ignores Israel’s military capabilities. Like I said, it takes a lot of balls for Israel to stare down Russia.

Israel will not tolerate that the Russian - Iranian - Syrian - Hezbollah alliance will threaten Israel's existence. Hence Israel will find the way to counter the deadly Russian S-300 systems. That will be a huge embarrassment for Russia. Russia can avoid that embarrassment by NOT supplying those nasty weapons to Chemical Assad.

I do not know what to make of it. There were multiple reports about Russian S-400, and S-300 already deployed in Syria and that they were tracking every plane that takes off and lands in the area of many kilometers. Then, Putin threatened to shoot down all American rockets if US decides to bomb Syria. Not a single rocket was shot down and it was total embarrassment for Putin and his gang. Now Putin says that this time he is really-really serious and that there is no S-300's in Syria and now he will certainly deploy them there and, if Israel bombs Syria something terrible will happen that is bad for everybody (probably hoping that Israel will get scared and never tests S-300). My take on it is that S-300 and S-400 capabilities are nothing more than Russian fairy-tales designed to sell that system to the 3rd world countries.

Unfortunately they do work pretty well. They havent been tested on the F-35, although recent drills over Greece may have helped our understanding. But if necessary, Israel and US missiles will destroy everyone of them in Syria. As long as Russia controls them, they will not be parked near schools, hospitals and apartment blocks. However, if Iran or Syria ever gets full control, all bets are off!!

It's unlikely that standoff launched missiles would be used to take out S-300 launchers. Such missiles are not sufficiently maneuverable to evade antimissile systems and do not contain cloaking or jamming systems. You can be sure that the F-35 was specifically designed with cloaking and ECM systems to defeat the S-300 and S-400 systems. These capabilities are enhanced by the accompanying use of F18 Growler ECM aircraft, currently being upgraded with AESA technology. Do you think the US would have spent over $55 billion to develop the F-35 and procure them at $16 billion apiece if they were vulnerable to Russia's 20 year old (and older) antiaircraft systems? The F-35 can get right on top of the S-300/400 launchers and take them out with smart bombs.

"You can be sure that the F-35 was specifically designed with cloaking and ECM systems to defeat the S-300 and S-400 systems."
I wouldn't be so sure.Israel has lost one F-35 already allegedly to a "bird strike," though others say actually to a lowly Syriani S-200 back in October of last year. I think the F-35 is a myth, and Israel will be in trouble if Putin's threat is carried out. I hope I'm wrong.

P.S. THe US has wasted over $450 billion on the F-35 over the last 20 years, and they cost roughly $100 million apiece . Israel had to take them because it had no alternative after we refused to give them the F-22, which is what they really badly wanted. Israel gets the F-35 FOR FREE. but I doubt they are worth it even for free. But I hope I'm wrong and everything works out as we hope.

Yes, but they're under the control of the Russians to protect the Russian military bases and seaport in Syria. But they are not under the control of the Syrian government. But the Russians are threatening to turn them over to Syrian control, but then they would need some training to use them. THey would make life much harder for the israeli air force whose purpose is to stop Iranian and Hezbollah bases from acquiring advanced weapons to use against Israel. But of course all the major powers want to sell their weapons, and Russia is second only to the US in arms sales, and Syria has become the testing grounds, which is not what Israel enjoys. Israel enjoys peace.

I am afraid you are wrong. Russia's S300 and S400 systems are said to be the state of the art in this field, bar none. If Russia installs them in Syria, Israel would lose any possibility to act in that territory, with all the consequences we can fear : ie Hezbollah and Iran would be free to do as they please just on the borders of Israel. An untenable position over the long-term.
As a wrote earlier, America must have assured Israel that it has its back should Israel intervene directly against the Russians.

It is quite a worrisome situation developing ... but I guess Israel has no option other than nip in the bud Russia's cooperation with Iran.

I think and certainly hope that Russia blinks first. The alternative is too awful to consider.

Putin is a Moron thinking that Israel will stand by while he is installing S-300 in Syria,
Israel does have an answer to the S-300, jamming their radar system will make them obsolete..
“The S-300 would be the pinnacle of Russian-supplied arms for Syria,” Colonel Zvika Haimovich, a senior Israeli air force officer, told Reuters in an interview. “Though it would impinge on our operations, we are capable of overcoming it.

I am sure that Israel is working on it or already solved it, Israel is much more advanced than the Russians when it comes to technology. The S-400 development started in 1980 and put in use in 2001 it is old technology, we have to admit it is a threat.
There are a few ways to attack this system and not only by F-35 jets.
Don't forget Israel developed the Iron dome, the Arrow and magic wand system.

Jeremiah said - "So says Jehovah, Cursed is the man who trusts in man, and who makes flesh his arm, and who turns aside his heart from Jehovah.
For he shall be like a juniper in the desert, and shall not see when good comes. But he shall live in parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land that is not inhabited.
Blessed is the man who trusts in Jehovah, and Jehovah is his refuge.
For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters. It sends out its roots by the stream, and it will not fear when the heat comes; but its foliage will be green; and it is not anxious in the year of drought, nor will it cease from yielding fruit.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is incurable; who can know it?
I, Jehovah, search the heart, I try the reins, even to give to each man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings./ Jermiah 17:5-10
