Default How enforced is the rule regarding haircuts?

This is of extremely little importance, but I have a question regarding haircuts in the IDF.
A while back I was reading the Nefesh B'Nefesh page which explained that all men must have hair 1 inch or shorter. I was recently looking at some pictures of soldiers, many of whom had haircuts which clearly looked longer than this. I was wondering if this rule isn't very enforced, if it varies by unit/rank, or if my hair-length estimation skills are simply subpar.

Why does this matter?

I know some Indian soldiers in J & K and some allied ones in Af-Pak have Moslem names and appearance for obvious reasons, no doubt if an IDF vet comes across your query they ll answer in due time.

Depends on where you are in the army and if you have a special reason to get a permit not to cut your hair as you should.

If you are in a non-combat role, it is traditionally easier to receive a permit to grow your hair longer or to grow a beard for reasons not concerning religion.

It is also possible that you saw pictures of reserve soldiers. Reserve soldiers are not subject to uniform requirements such as this.

Also, at a certain rank, the army stops caring about your hair length as long as it's neat.

In addition to this, forces with special duties sometimes need to adopt other standards, but this is rare.
