Would be an Honor to serve - 4 Questions
Was looking to clarify a few questions. I am 22 years old and I just graduated with a degree (from Yeshiva U) in Biology/Spanish. I spent a year on a Kibbutz in Israel so my Hebrew is moderately good. I was interested in taking 2 gap years before beginning medical school in the US or Israel to volunteer in the IDF. I speak English, Spanish, Farsi, Hebrew, some French, and just started Arabic.
1. Is there any way I can ascertain where I would be placed in the army (my interests lie in combat), before officially enlisting?
2. I have glasses. My prescription is about -8.00 (which is pretty strong). Do you know the implications this can have for my score to get into combat?
3. Are lone-soldiers eligible to partake in the gibbushim for elite special forces, and if so/not, what would be the process/timeline to go forward with this goal?
4. Lastly, how long before the draft must I begin the process and what are the dates of the next drafts?
It would be a true honor to serve in the IDF and I'd be grateful for others adivce.
