Exclamation Arm the Innocent

Arm the Innocent
We in the West have not learned our lessons – we still prefer liberal pieties and “peace-talk” to arming the innocent.
By Don Cicchetti

http://www.americanthinker.com/artic..._innocent.html

At 9:40 PM, November 13, 2015. Bataclan Theater (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-34827497) in Paris, France, a car pulled up and three men with AK pattern rifles jump out and began firing, first at the Bataclan Café, then entering the theater next door. The men ran to the mezzanine shouting “Allahu Akbar!” and methodically sweeping the crowded floor with fully automatic fire and throwing hand grenades into the crowd. For twenty minutes the attack went on -- people dying, people bleeding, with some pretending to be dead in hopes they would be left alone. At about 10:00 PM the attackers took 60 to 100 people hostage and threatened to decapitate a hostage every five minutes. As first responders arrive, they are also attacked. Heroic actions on the part of the responding police and tactical units ended the assault, but not before 89 people died.

Twenty of the survivors (http://www.americanthinker.com/artic..._innocent.html) are still in the hospital a year later.

Many bodies of the dead were so torn up that some believe they were mutilated and tortured. No one really knows whether it was that, or the effect of multiple explosions and bullet impacts.

This gruesome scene was the cumulative result of bad policy, weak government, and low national resolve, combined with explosives and high velocity bullets impacting human flesh and bone. It is a massive failure of government’s first and most important role: keeping citizens safe. If you have a strong stomach, do a Google search for images of Bataclan to see its reality.

Jihadis (along with the mentally ill and the aggrieved and obsessed) are planning more mass murders. Perhaps at your favorite music club, bar, or even your church or synagogue. Or a preschool.

At Bataclan, an anonymous security guard (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016...eal-for-first/) (he would not reveal his name out of fear) lay unwounded amid the dead and dying, hoping for a break in the gunfire. When it came, he heroically hustled survivors out the side door. Then the first police officer arrived on the scene and shot dead the terrorist on the stage. The heroic security guard spent the next 2-1/2 hours leading people safely away from the now bloody concert venue as the remaining Jihadis holed up in the building with hostages.

Let me ask you a question: would you prefer, or not prefer, for that brave soul to have been armed? Would you prefer, or not prefer, that 20-30 of the concertgoers had been armed? If you cannot easily say that yes, you wish they had been armed, then you are either allowing your ideology to hold sway over your morals, or you are simply not morally serious. What does it mean not to be morally serious? It means to value your view of yourself as peaceful/pacifist, or simply morally superior, more than you value other people’s lives.

T.S. Eliot said:

"Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm -- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves."

Since the 1960s, it has become acceptable, in one instance after another, to allow others to die in the name of our personal purities and pieties. In the name of a strange equivalence that sees all violence as morally equal, we grant these killers an unbeatable advantage over the civilized.

John Lott shows, in his revelatory book The Bias Against Guns: Why Almost Everything You've Heard About Gun Control Is Wrong (https://www.amazon.com/Bias-Against-...ords=john+lott), that public mass shootings drop to zero (or close to it) where there is a realistic expectation that the public is armed. Those who commit these crimes select sites, cities, and nations where the public is likely to be unable to defend themselves (such as gun-free zones) for their murders. Each of us, if we care about the truth of this issue, should read that book.

Perhaps it is time to arm the innocent. I prefer that the next ghouls who break into a meeting of good and decent people, as in San Bernardino, be met with a hail of returning gunfire. Let’s have the next jihadi who hates gay Americans and plans to kill as many as he can at a club or bar, as in Orlando, met with 20 gay people with guns. The police cannot stop these attacks. They arrive far too late to do so. A couple of unarmed security guards, no matter their heroism, do not constitute protection from this threat. Even a couple of armed security guards is inadequate for today’s realities. I was in Orlando just after the attacks there, and there were slogans all over the city on shirts, and hats, and up on walls. They said: “Orlando Strong.” San Bernardino had them too, right next to the sad displays of flowers and candles mourning the dead on Waterman Ave. Really? Strong? What is strong about this? Wouldn’t armed resistance to murder be strong, and in more than words?

Sandy Hook Elementary School principal Dawn Hochsprung (http://news.nationalpost.com/news/th...cting-students) and school psychologist Mary Sherlach confronted murderer Adam Lanza when they heard gunshots in their school. Principal Hochsprung actually lunged at Lanza in an effort to disarm him. He killed her. Would you prefer that heroic woman to have been armed -- or not? The ghoul Lanza, when police were closing in, killed himself, which is what mass murderers often do when brave men and women with guns show up. The presence of guns in the hands of a couple of brave sheepdogs (https://www.policeone.com/police-her...and-Sheepdogs/) (such as the janitor who, risking his life, ran up and down the halls, warning the classrooms) might have meant a whole different ending to Sandy Hook.

The Eagles of Death Metal singer and guitarist Jesse Hughes (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...-the-batalcan/) was front and center at Bataclan when the massacre started. He escaped without injury but the experience changed him, and for a brief moment, the truth shot right through the media wall of leftist thinking when he said:

“I’ll ask you: Did your French gun control stop a single [expletive] person from dying at the Bataclan? And if anyone can answer yes, I’d like to hear it, because I don’t think so.” As he continued: “It just seems like God made men and women, and, that night, guns made them equal. Maybe until nobody has guns, everybody has to have them.”

Of course, the media responded with the usual assorted tsk-tsks and the issue quieted down, but Jesse’s statement still remains: singular, and almost startling in its truth.

There are sheepdogs (https://www.policeone.com/police-her...and-Sheepdogs/) (the brave, who are willing to risk their own lives to save others) in every group of people. Why do we refuse to allow them to defend us?

Sting performed (http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrit...taclan-9250350) at the just-reopened Bataclan on November 12 of this year. I am glad nothing happened at that show, but the we in the west have not learned our lessons -- we still prefer liberal pieties and “peace-talk” to arming the innocent and a having chance at living.

Exclamation Whither Gun Control?

Whither Gun Control?
Donald Trump's victory just shrank the horizon for gun control advocates.
By Ben Cohen

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/...n_control.html

Pseudonymous blogger Publius famously called the 2016 election a “Flight 93 election” for conservatives. However, the 2016 presidential election appears to have been a “Flight 93” election for another group: gun control advocates. The Supreme Court justices Donald Trump appears likely to appoint will severely limit the scope of future gun control legislation.

In 2008, the Supreme Court overturned the District of Columbia's handgun ban, along with their “safe storage requirement.” The 5-4 ruling upheld an individual right to own a firearm for personal protection, unrelated to any militia service. While recognizing an individual right to bear arms, the court also found that some regulations are permissible under the Second Amendment.

The court's ruling left mostly open the question of which regulations would be permissible and which would not. Handgun bans would be out of the question, but the constitutionality of bans on assault weapons or large-capacity magazines remains open. The justices Donald Trump appoints will play a decisive role in answering these questions.

Donald Trump will not only appoint Scalia's replacement, but likely appoint replacements for Anthony Kennedy and Clarence Thomas. Kennedy is 80 years old and will probably choose to retire now that a Republican president will pick his replacement. Clarence Thomas is only 68, but reports indicate he is interested in retiring.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg is 83, but she clearly wants a Democrat president to appoint her replacement. However, she may not be able to hold out for another four to eight years. Similarly, Stephen Breyer is 78 years old. Trump could very well replace at least one of these justices, especially if he wins a second term.

Assuming Donald Trump makes conservative appointments, conservatives will have between a 5-4 and a 7-2 majority. In other words, a conservative Supreme Court will determine the scope of the Second Amendment.

Unless the Supreme Court overturns the Heller decision, Australian-style gun control is probably impossible. While the court may defer to the legislative branch, allowing a broad array of gun laws to stand, they would almost certainly reject the type of onerous licensing that defines the Australian system. We may be witnessing the quiet death of the gun control movement.

For the most passionate advocates of gun control, the ultimate goal was never an assault weapons ban or universal background checks. For them, the ultimate goal was a system that included very high barriers to gun ownership, along with major restrictions on the type of weapon one could own. The overarching goal of such regulations would be to reduce the number of gun owners and the number of guns in private hands. That dream may have just died.

Roe v. Wade didn't end the abortion debate, but it greatly limited the scope of possible legislation. For practical purposes, our present abortion debate concerns late-term abortion, leaving the basic question of whether abortion should be legal at all untouched. The gun control debate may be headed in a similar direction.

Angry Muslim refugee brings jihad terror to ohio state

MUSLIM REFUGEE BRINGS JIHAD TERROR TO OHIO STATE
And the Left uses it to call for…gun control.
By Robert Spencer

Ohio State University student Abdul Razak Ali Artan on Monday morning (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...niversity.html) set off a fire alarm on campus, the drove his car into the crowd of students evacuating the building. Then he jumped out of his car and began stabbing people with a butcher knife. In a departure from the usual denial and obfuscation, Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs was refreshingly honest, saying (http://www.kare11.com/news/local/ohi...us/356920291): “I think we have to consider that it is” a terror attack. Leftists took advantage of the occasion to call for gun control (http://dailycaller.com/2016/11/28/de...ontrol-debate/), which might have been a cogent argument were it not for one inconvenient detail: Artan didn’t have a gun. But above all, Artan was a “refugee”: the attack vindicates President-elect Trump on Muslim immigration.

Artan was no poster boy for gun control, but he may have been one for the Islamic State, which issued (https://www.jihadwatch.org/2014/09/i...ssion-of-allah) this call in September 2014:

So O muwahhid, do not let this battle pass you by wherever you may be. You must strike the soldiers, patrons, and troops of the tawaghit. Strike their police, security, and intelligence members, as well as their treacherous agents. Destroy their beds. Embitter their lives for them and busy them with themselves. If you can kill a disbelieving American or European — especially the spiteful and filthy French — or an Australian, or a Canadian, or any other disbeliever from the disbelievers waging war, including the citizens of the countries that entered into a coalition against the Islamic State, then rely upon Allah, and kill him in any manner or way however it may be….If you are not able to find an IED or a bullet, then single out the disbelieving American, Frenchman, or any of their allies. Smash his head with a rock, or slaughter him with a knife, or run him over with your car, or throw him down from a high place, or choke him, or poison him….

Intriguingly, before his jihad attack, Artan demonstrated that he knew well how to play the victim card. He appeared in Ohio State University’s The Lantern (https://issuu.com/thelantern/docs/082516), in a feature entitled “Humans of Ohio State.” In it, he spoke about being “scared” about performing his Islamic prayers in public:

I just transferred from Columbus State. We had prayer rooms, like actual rooms where we could go to pray because we Muslims have to pray five times a day. There’s Fajr, which is early in the morning, at dawn. Then Zuhr during the daytime, then Asr in the evening, like right about now. And then Maghrib, which is like right at sunset and then Isha at night. I wanted to pray Asr. I mean, I’m new here. This is my first day. This place is huge, and I don’t even know where to pray. I wanted to pray in the open, but I was kind of scared with everything going on in the media. I’m a Muslim, it’s not what the media portrays me to be. If people look at me, a Muslim praying, I don’t know what they’re going to think, what’s going to happen. But, I don’t blame them, it’s the media that put that picture in their heads so they’re just going to have it and it, it’s going to make them feel uncomfortable. I was kind of scared right now. But I just did it. I relied on God. I went over to the corner and just prayed.

Abdul Razak Artan, “third-year in logistic management,” is dead now, so The Lantern can’t go back to him and ask him if he understands better now why people might be nervous about Muslims praying, and why it isn’t just the fault of “the media.”

In a Facebook post (http://abc13.com/news/everything-we-...spect/1629101/), Artan played the victim again, but sounded a more ominous note. He referenced jihad mastermind Anwar al-Awlaki and declared: “I am sick and tired of seeing my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters being killed and tortured EVERYWHERE. … I can’t take it anymore. America! Stop interfering with other countries … [if] you want us Muslims to stop carrying lone wolf attacks.”

Meanwhile, Artan’s attack shows the wisdom of President-elect Trump’s call for a temporary moratorium on immigration from countries that are hotbeds of jihad terror activity. KARE11.com reported that “Artan was a Somali refugee and Ohio State student who left his homeland with his family in 2007. They lived in Pakistan before coming to the U.S., where Artan became a permanent resident in 2014.” Somalia and Pakistan: two epicenters of the global jihad. If Trump’s proposal becomes American law, Abdul Artan would never have entered the United States, and Monday’s jihad attack at Ohio State University would never have happened.

There is abundant evidence that admitting Muslim refugees is a jihad risk. In February 2015, the Islamic State boasted it would soon flood Europe with as many as 500,000 refugees (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...on-bombed.html). And the Lebanese Education Minister said (https://www.jihadwatch.org/2015/09/l...comment-page-1) in September 2015 that there were 20,000 jihadis among the refugees in camps in his country. Meanwhile, 80% of migrants (https://www.jihadwatch.org/2015/09/h...m-syria-at-all) who have come to Europe claiming to be fleeing the war in Syria aren’t really from Syria at all.

So why are they claiming to be Syrian and streaming into Europe, and now the U.S. as well? An Islamic State operative (http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/...urope-Refugees) gave the answer when he boasted in September 2015, shortly after the migrant influx began, that among the flood of refugees, 4,000 Islamic State jihadis had already entered Europe. He explained their purpose: “It’s our dream that there should be a caliphate not only in Syria but in all the world, and we will have it soon, inshallah.” These Muslims were going to Europe in the service of that caliphate: “They are going like refugees,” he said, but they were going with the plan of sowing blood and mayhem on European streets. As he told this to journalists, he smiled and said, “Just wait.”

All nine of the jihadis (http://www.dw.com/en/islamic-state-r...ers/a-36389389) who murdered 130 people in Paris in November 2015 had just entered Europe as refugees. And now the same murderous impulse has come to Ohio State University, courtesy of another “refugee.” How many more such jihad attacks must there be before the wisdom of a moratorium on immigration from jihad hotspots is universally recognized?

Thumbs down The Left Tries to Blame Guns For The Near-Ohio State-Massacre

ISIS CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY FOR OSU ATTACK
While the Left Tries To Blame Guns For The Near-Massacre –
Even Though Guns Weren’t Used.
By Matthew Vadum

http://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/2649...-matthew-vadum

The Muslim terrorist group Islamic State has claimed responsibility for U.S. green card holder Abdul Razak Ali Artan’s brutal car-and-machete attack at Ohio State University.

On Monday morning 18-year-old Artan drove his car through a crowd of pedestrians at OSU’s Columbus campus. He exited the vehicle and then began hacking away at people with his knife. A police officer at the scene shot and killed him. Media reports indicated 12 people were injured in the attack but none suffered life-threatening injuries. Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs promptly said “I think we have to consider that it is” a terrorist attack.

Sure enough, on Tuesday Islamic State claimed responsibility (http://thehill.com/policy/national-s...versity-attack) for the terrorist assault. The group’s Amaq News Agency stated the OSU attack was perpetrated by a "soldier of the Islamic State."

Artan did in fact follow the express directives of Islamic State. In September 2014 the group issued this order (http://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/2649...robert-spencer) to its followers:

On Facebook, Artan referenced jihadist mastermind Anwar al-Awlaki and wrote: “I am sick and tired of seeing my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters being killed and tortured EVERYWHERE. … I can’t take it anymore. America! Stop interfering with other countries … [if] you want us Muslims to stop carrying lone wolf attacks.”

As soon as details about Artan began trickling out it was obvious to anyone not wearing politically correct blinders that the attack was an act of Islamic terrorism. KARE11.com reported “Artan was a Somali refugee and Ohio State student who left his homeland with his family in 2007. They lived in Pakistan before coming to the U.S., where Artan became a permanent resident in 2014.”

Somalia and Pakistan are “two epicenters of the global jihad,” writes Robert Spencer. If President-elect Donald Trump’s proposal to place a temporary moratorium on immigration from jihadist-friendly countries had been in effect “Monday’s jihad attack at Ohio State University would never have happened,” he adds.

Under President Obama, Somali refugee resettlement has surged (http://www.lifezette.com/polizette/s...percent-obama/) by an astounding 250 percent. As Jim Stinson writes at LifeZette:

Somalia is an overwhelmingly Muslim nation. Over 99 percent of Somalians are Muslim, according to Pennsylvania State University. Mass Muslim migration to Western nations in recent years has generated major concerns about cultural assimilation, vetting procedures, and, ultimately, instances of radicalization and violence.

Somali refugees have taken up residence in communities across America, creating Little Mogadishus across the fruited plain. Somalis in Columbus have been implicated previously (http://www.frontpagemag.com/point/26...iel-greenfield) in Islamic terror plots.

Despite the evidence pointing to jihad as the motive, talking heads spent untold hours on cable news networks Monday handwringing as they cautioned against leaping to conclusions about the motive of the killer. This is the way it works nowadays. The Obama administration, local authorities, left-wing kooks on Twitter, and the media play a gigantic game of pretending not to notice that terrorist attacks are terrorist attacks.

Knee-jerk leftists immediately tried to change the subject from terrorism after the attack, blaming guns even though firearms were not used in the attack.

At 11:52 a.m. Monday, recently defeated vice presidential candidate Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) had already jumped on the let’s-blame-it-on-guns bandwagon, tweeting “Deeply saddened by the senseless act of gun violence at Ohio State this morning. Praying for the injured and the entire Buckeye community[.]”

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) tweeted "Today is yet another ... sad day in our country because of a senseless shooting at an Ohio State University.

Annoying affective actor George Takei joined in, tweeting, "Tired of the shootings, and the complicity of the NRA? Join us to help fight.” He included a link to his (closed) Facebook group.

Gun control fanatic Shannon Watts tweeted "For school shooting victims it's not too soon to discuss our nation's lax guns laws - it's too late[.]"

The Left has no ideas. They use the same old script from the same old playbook.

On June 12 of this year the mangled bodies of 49 dead Americans were still warm on the blood-stained nightclub floor at Pulse in Orlando, Fla. when the Left launched a propaganda campaign to protect the totalitarian ideology of the Muslim terrorist who methodically slaughtered these innocents. The killer, Omar Mir Siddique Mateen, had carried out the worst mass shooting in American history and the worst terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11.

Journalist Tom Brokaw editorialized at the time that the real problem was guns not Islam. “Everything seems to get settled by a gun for whatever reasons,” he said.

The lies, reflexive reactions, and red herrings of TV talking heads like Brokaw were repeated over and over again by left-wingers all over the Internet and their allies in the media echo chamber.

Democrat lawmakers blamed inanimate metal objects for the terrorist massacre. They staged a raucous “sit-in” in the House of Representatives on June 22 in an attempt to force a vote on expanded gun control measures. Journalists indulged the politicians by providing saturation media coverage of the stunt.

Soon after the attack, President Obama shrugged, claiming it was too early to know “the precise motivations of the killer.” New York’s toxic leftist mayor, Bill de Blasio, blamed firearms, lamenting that “we have lost precious lives to the gun.” Salon writer Amanda Marcotte blamed conservatives, Christians, and “the cult of toxic masculinity.” Purported comedian John Fugelsang attacked gun rights, quipping that so many victims were killed rapidly because “in America, maniacs still have a God-given right to not have to reload mid-massacre.”

The Left used the deadly Dec. 2, 2015 Muslim terrorist attack in San Bernardino, Calif., to advance the gun control agenda. Before much was known about the perpetrators, the media spent the afternoon of the day of the attack speculating about the shooters, predictably blaming conservatives, Tea Party supporters, and militia groups.

President Obama demanded "common sense gun safety laws" and called for a law blocking individuals on the "No Fly List" from legally purchasing firearms, a measure that would almost certainly violate the Constitution.

Democratic candidates for president tripped over each other as they raced to express choreographed outrage on Twitter. Hillary Clinton urged "action to stop gun violence." Bernie Sanders whined, "This sickening and senseless gun violence must stop." Martin O'Malley declared, "Enough is enough: it's time to stand up to the @NRA and enact meaningful gun safety laws."

Of course it was a gun that ended Abdul Razak Ali Artan's terrorist attack in Columbus.

And as long as the Second Amendment is respected, Americans armed with guns will keep on foiling Muslim terrorists.
