I've heard that the IDF will take you in even if you're unfit and make you fit. I'm not too unfit but I'm not a top level athlete either, to be accepted into a combat unit how fit must I be? I'll probably go to Israel at 17 and spend a year learning Hebrew and training physically. So, does anyone know? Thanks in advance for your help.
IDF service is mandatory. There will be 6'2" women who weigh 100 pounds, and 5'2" girls who weigh 200 pounds. They all serve. And when you join the military, any military, you serve where you are told. While prep is important, no one gets to leave the army because they didn't get the posting they had hoped for.
I realize it is summer vacation, and school doesn't start for a while and your mind is wandering, but this is all very specualtive still for you. You are old enough to know what competitively in shape means. As I advised you - hone your hebrew, stay fit and make sure you are going to have permission to do all these things. Under the age of 21, you will need a parents signature.
Andthen, if all goes well, you can serve Israel. Doing whatever it is Israel wants you to be doing.
