Submarine stealth technology (including silent electric and AIP technology) has proliferated so that now many countries possess such technology. The unknown is how much detection technology has improved. Since this is more of a closely held secret, we probably won't know the answer until the next major naval submarine engagement.

A great sub in mediocre hands is a poor sub in fact. So far, the majority of sub-owners just do not make anywhere near full use of potentials. The ability to organise a mission, get the sub out into the open ocean, meet objectives, overcome difficulties, and get men and boat back home to port is no small accomplishment. The room for lackluster performance is slight.

For Israel to keep subs on station in the Persian Gulf, without even a blue-water navy to support the mission, is unique I think. So whatever transpires in the next big war, our training will give us options that most of our traditional enemies do not have--even if they have purchased Germany or Sweden's finest little stealth subs.

Reminds me of the days when the little pre-British English navy of Elizabeth I defeated the Spanish Armada. The English gunners fired more shot in practice than in battle, and the gun crews worked against improving their own time. From beat to quarters, to running out the guns, setting the slow match burning, spreading sand, bringing powder up from the magazine. Whereas, the Spanish crews were only basically trained, but never drilled and sharpened into tight, almost automatic response teams as were the English. Better equipment, better training, better morale, better leaders, better planning, better fall-back options, better HQ and civilian government support.

None of Israel's regional enemies come close to us in submarine warfare, and they cannot do so overnight should they decide to try. .

So very true David.

There are TWO simple basic things that win Wars.

TRAINING & LOGISTICS

I think there is a quote to that effect, " Amateurs discuss Tactics, professionals discuss Logistics."
