Exclamation Ground Zero mega-mosque: the gospel according to the Associated Press

Ground Zero mega-mosque: the gospel according to the Associated Press

The Associated Press cracked the whip the other day, issuing a strict and specific set of guidelines, approved terminology, and "facts" to be used in its coverage of the Ground Zero mosque.

The AP's agenda is clear, and its policy statement amounts to a resolution to agitate in favor of the mosque and dismiss criticism and concerns about it out of hand.

It is an open and unapologetic statement of journalistic bias.

As Frank Gaffney says in what will be a handy companion to future AP reporting on the mosque, it amounts to a "Muslim Brotherhood narrative about the Islamic cultural center formerly known as the 'Ground Zero mosque'." A thorough deconstruction of AP's pravda, er, "truth," about the project is indeed in order. "Fact-Checking the AP 'Fact Check' On the Ground Zero Mosque," by Frank Gaffney for Big Journalism, August 20:
Stop the presses! This just in: The Associated Press "standards center" has issued a "staff advisory" on covering what is to be known from here on out as "the New York City mosque." From now on, the AP "staff" - and, therefore, everybody who still actually reads newspapers that still actually use the wire service's copy - is supposed to conform to what amounts to the Muslim Brotherhood narrative about the Islamic cultural center formerly known as the "Ground Zero mosque."
AP's Deputy Managing Editor for Standards and Production, Tom Kent, sent this "guidance" out to his colleagues, with inputs from Chad Roedemeier in the New York bureau and Terry Hunt in Washington: "We should continue to avoid the phrase 'Ground Zero mosque' or 'mosque at Ground Zero' on all platforms. (We've very rarely used this wording, except in slugs, though we sometimes see other news sources using the term.) The site of the proposed Islamic center and mosque is not at Ground Zero, but two blocks away in a busy commercial area. We should continue to say it's "near" Ground Zero, or two blocks away."
It was hit by landing gear from one of the hijacked planes. It was damaged by the instrument and the act of the attack, and is thus clearly part of the site of the attack. More on that here. As Gaffney observes, even Rauf seemed to grasp that:
Interestingly, among those who formerly used the now-proscribed descriptor "Ground Zero mosque" is none other than Feisal Abdul Rauf, its imam and chief promoter. He called it that even though the proposed venue has always been two blocks away from the World Trade Center site.
Perhaps Rauf used this moniker because his planned location for the mosque was part of the real estate attacked and damaged on 9/11 - the home of the Burlington Coat Factory until it was struck by a landing gear from a plane that struck one of the Twin Towers. Perhaps he used that term to brand his "Cordoba House" because body parts from the victims of those attacks have been found all over Lower Manhattan, including the old Burlington factory area, making it part of the hallowed ground.
Or perhaps, Imam Rauf called his project the Ground Zero mosque because he wanted to associate his 15-story, $100 million complex as closely as possible to the location where nearly 3,000 Americans and other innocent people - precisely because they were murdered there by people who wanted, as he does, to "bring shariah to America."
The last explanation would certainly conform to the triumphalist past practice of adherents to shariah, the barbaric, totalitarian political program that masquerades as a religion. Indeed, there is a tradition of constructing mosques at the site of previous Islamic conquests for example in Jerusalem, Istanbul and Cordoba, Spain. Yes, it was for Cordoba - where a Catholic church was converted into the world's third largest mosque by the Moorish conquerors of Spain - that Rauf wanted initially to name his Ground Zero mosque.
We can't get a clarification from Imam Rauf about precisely why he wanted to call his complex the Ground Zero mosque. He seems to be incommunicado as he is, just now, on an extended overseas stay, including stops in Malaysia and a U.S. taxpayer-underwritten trip to Middle East capitals. This foray could not be more convenient as the imam seeks to raise the nine-figure sum required to build his facility now being repackaged as simply an address: "Park 51."
In his absence, it has mostly fallen to Muslim Brotherhood operatives associated with fronts like the Council on American Islamic Relations and the Muslim American Society to tout the mosque. And all they want to do is get others - especially in the media and government - to drive home themes like those presented as "facts" by the Associated Press.
The Brotherhood has already succeeded brilliantly at this in the past. For example, the "guidelines" adopted in October 2001 by the Society of Professional Journalists explicitly call for its members to use spellings "preferred by the American Muslim Council, including 'Muhammad,' 'Quran,' and 'Makkah,' not 'Mecca' - at a time when the AMC was one of the most prominent Brotherhood fronts in the United States. [...]
It behooves us, therefore, to do a fact check on AP's "fact check":
AP: "A New York imam and his proposed mosque near ground zero are being demonized by political candidates -- mostly Republicans -- despite the fact that Islam is already very much a part of the World Trade Center neighborhood. And that Muslims pray inside the Pentagon, too, less than 80 feet from where terrorists attacked."
Before we get to Gaffney's response, there is one apparent difference at the Pentagon: That chapel is described as a space for all faiths, sounding rather like an airport chapel where, essentially, if you need a quiet place to pray to whomever it is you pray to, here's where you go. There are Bibles, and even a font for holy water, and there are reportedly Jewish and Hindu services, with Buddhist services possibly in the works as well. In other words, it is not a triumphalist Islamic structure intended to 1.) throw down a gauntlet on whether 9/11 had something to do with Islam, and 2.) force the national discussion on Islam into concluding it didn't, with dissenters branded as paranoid, unwashed bigots.

Gaffney continues:
THE FACTS: "Demonized" is a loaded term that denigrates the criticism Republicans and a growing number of Democrats - including Sen. Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader - have properly made of the site of the Ground Zero Mosque and, in some cases, of its Imam. The issue is not whether Muslims pray in proximity to Ground Zero - or the Pentagon's equally hallowed ground. Rather, it is whether they and the facility in which they pray are dedicated to the promotion of the seditious, anti-constitutional program of Shariah. If so, it is a problem. If not, not....

There is so much more. Read it all.

Arrow Muslim Miss USA: No Mosque at Ground Zero

Looks like Miss USA -- a practicing Muslim and the first Arab-American ever to snag the sparkly crown -- won't be unrolling her prayer mat in the mosque near Ground Zero.

Rima Fakih, a Queens-raised daughter of Lebanese immigrants, said she respects freedom of religion but believes the proposed $100 million Islamic cultural center is too close to the site of the worst domestic terror attack in US history.

"I totally agree with President Obama with the statement on constitutional rights of freedom of religion," the beauty queen said in an interview with "Inside Edition" that aired yesterday.

"I also agree that it shouldn't be so close to the World Trade Center. We should be more concerned with the tragedy than religion."

Arrow Imam's wife 'won't cave' on Ground Zero mosque, blames GOP

The defiant wife of the cleric behind the planned mosque near Ground Zero vowed yesterday to go ahead with the project -- calling it a "history-making moment" in the fight against "Islamophobia."

Daisy Khan, who founded the project along with her husband, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, said the increasing opposition -- which she blamed on Republicans -- has only caused organizers to become more committed.

"There is too much at stake, constitutional rights, the development of the Muslims here, how the world is watching the United States. We tell people America upholds religious freedom. We should not compromise those values," she said in an interview with The Washington Post.

The furor surrounding the planned mosque and Islamic cultural center two blocks from Ground Zero has "only strengthened our supporters. None of them have caved. They are circling the wagons around us. They know they could be next."

"We have too important a moment to back down. We have to take our opponents and transform them. We have to convince people that not all Muslims are extremists," she said.

"We have to educate them on being able to distinguish between us and on the issue of Islamophobia."

Khan spoke out about the mosque while her husband is in the Middle East on a goodwill trip sponsored by the US State Department.

Throughout the interview with columnist Sally Quinn, Khan repeatedly stressed the importance of moving forward with the project, which has stirred debate all over the country.

"What gives me strength [is that] we are in a history-making moment. Our ideals must prevail. We have to fight for a bigger society," said Khan.
She that she and her husband had received death threats and have informed the police.

Khan said the organizers "will have a dialogue" with the families of 9/11 victims, but added about the mosque site: "It is private property. To walk away without taking everything into consideration would be irresponsible."

Instead of creating enemies, she said, she hopes this controversy will help people better understand Islam.

"We are debating about having a healing dialogue, building bridges, and this whole thing has turned into the opposite of what we have envisioned," she said.

Khan said she is completely taken aback by the opposition.

She expressed surprise that "a community center for everyone in the neighborhood, to scale up and build up people of all religions, has become so skewed."

The clamor around the mosque has become so deafening, she said, she's afraid to turn on the TV.

"It's hard to see yourself portrayed this way daily. But to me, it's an indication that the post-9/11 controversy is not finished. It's not over and neither is the healing. This is a teaching moment. A healing moment," she said.

She blamed partisan strife for stirring up people's emotions.

"It's hard for us to imagine we are in the thick of a controversy like this. The Republicans are really going after us," she said.

The uproar over the mosque, said Khan, shows that "there is still healing that needs to happen. There are bigger issues here and it's also about how Muslims are perceived. When will Muslims be accepted as plain old Americans?"

"This is a bigger fight. This is a defining moment for us."

Addressing one of the more controversial aspects of the project -- who will pay the big bucks for its completion -- she said that the fund-raising has not begun yet.

"On the advice of our attorneys, we wanted to clear the civic hurdles first," she said.

Khan said that she and her husband have been talking to Muslims all over the United States about the project.

"It's a major concern of the Muslim communities because it has sparked anti-Islam and anti-mosque feelings everywhere. Six mosques have already been prevented from being established. We have to be careful about every step we take. There are huge stakes in this," she said.

She claimed that there has been little interest in her project from Muslims outside the United States, but said that might change since her husband began his tour of the Middle East.

A State Department spokesman said that Rauf might speak about the mosque during the tour.

"I wouldn't be surprised if he talks about the ongoing debate within the United States, as an example of our emphasis on religious tolerance and resolving questions that come up within the rule of law," said department spokesman P.J. Crowley.

Rauf -- who has been on several State Department tours, including two under former President George W. Bush -- is not allowed to fund-raise on the trip.

Exclamation Cordoba institute sharia index project

CORDOBA INSTITUTE SHARIA INDEX PROJECT

It’s called CORDOBA INSTITUTE SHARIA INDEX PROJECT which is designed to benchmark Shariah compliance, to distribute Shariah propaganda, and to enforce Shariah law in America and worldwide.

Do the math. The15 floors planned for the Ground Zero Mosque just don’t add up.

What’s the goal? Maybe the Imam’s goal is not simply to force a provocative “insensitivity” about 9-11 on the American public, with the help of America’s elites. Maybe the Imam’s long-term goal is to force Shariah law on the American public – of course, again, with the help of America’s elites.

Why don’t the 15 floors add up? How many floors does Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf need for the mosque portion of this triumphal Islamic command center planned for the two building sites at 45-47 Park Place in New York City? Think about it: maybe 2 floors for the mosque itself and related offices. A 3rd floor for the swimming pool, a 4th for the 500 seat auditorium, a 5th for the halal restaurant and halal culinary school, a 6th for the art studios, the childcare center and library, a 7th for the gym and basketball court. Add an 8th floor for miscellaneous storage and offices. And then add a 9th floor for the September 11 memorial, an after-thought that was recently added to the Imam’s plan, although that may in fact be more of a room off to one side than a whole floor.

That leaves six mystery floors empty – or dedicated to other activities. Six floors – that’s a lot of offices, a lot of employees, maybe more than half of the 150 full-time and 500 part-time jobs the Imam says he’ll bring to Lower Manhattan. What are Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf’s plans for those six mystery floors?

Follow the Shariah Index Project to solve the puzzle of the 6 mystery floors:

We found two hidden websites with copiously deleted information, all about the Imam’s Cordoba Institute Shariah Index Project. For reference, here’s the Imam’s most recent hidden website (also available here as a pdf). And here’s the Imam’s earlier hidden website (also available here as a pdf). The information on those websites – information that the Imam tried to hide with a new whitewashed version – suggests that the six mystery floors of the Ground Zero Mosque will be dedicated to the Imam’s long-term goal: the Shariah Index Project, designed to benchmark Shariah compliance, to distribute Shariah propaganda, and to enforce Shariah law in America and worldwide.

Drawing from those hidden webpages and other sites, we’ve constructed a timeline for the Shariah Index Project and a partial list of Rauf’s partners in the Project. In Part 2, we’ll reveal the disturbing background and views of those partners. And in Part 3, we’ll present the bottom line – how this all ties together as a historic Islamist effort to market and to enforce Shariah in America, starting from Ground Zero.

Numbered Documents, for everyone’s convenience! Below, from the hidden websites, is the evidence Rauf tried to cover-up. We’ve even numbered the Shariah Index Project documents he mentioned, to make it easy for the Imam and his staff – for example, Courtney Erwin, attorney and director of the Shariah Index Project and corporate contact for the Cordoba Institute - to provide copies to the American public.

Courtney Erwin could end the cover-up of these documents today, given her leading role in the Shariah Index Project since its inception. Erwin, by the way, has been working in Doha (Qatar, home of jihad-supporter Sheik Qaradawi, so admired by Imam Rauf) for the past three months. She states that her team includes a Qatari legal researcher,” presumably for ongoing work on the Shariah Index Project. She may also be working with one of the core Shariah experts partnering in the Shariah Index Project, Dr. Jasser Auda, since January 2010 an Associate Professor in the Public Policy Program, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Qatar Foundation in Qatar. (Qatar is also one of the countries Imam Rauf is scheduled to visit on his State Department-funded trip this summer.) Look for much more on Erwin and Auda in Part 2.

American citizens and their elected officials should ask Rauf, Erwin and their associates to end the Shariah Index Project cover-up, and to disclose all documents, meeting notes, emails and attendee lists from 2006 to the present day. You don’t ask, you don’t get.

Arrow NY Mosque Imam Ducks Press - Even in Bahrain

Lift the veil of secrecy!

People in the Persian Gulf kingdom of Bahrain fumed yesterday that the cleric behind the proposed Ground Zero mosque toured their country under tight wraps as part of a State Department-organized goodwill tour of the Middle East.

"This man comes from America to speak with us, but we can't find him," said Fatah Mardine, 27, in the capital city of Manama.

"Why must he be so secretive? It makes me think that his visit is just for show, which makes me angry."

After a brief public appearance on Friday in which Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf preached about finding a way to "Americanize" Islam, he and his entourage have been under lock and key, with a tightly guarded itinerary that has locals scratching their heads.

"I think it is perfectly fine that he is here. I'd love to hear his point of view, but no one can tell me when or where I can see him," said Sanan Faisal, 31.

"There's no justification for hiding. Imam Rauf coming here, then hiding, does not help us come closer to Americans. In fact, it does the opposite."

The Post visited several mosques in Manama yesterday where local imams said they had no idea that Rauf was even visiting, let alone where he was speaking.

Despite the fact that the $16,000 trip was covered by taxpayers, the department, which organized the trip, repeatedly refused to disclose the details of the two-week excursion to Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

Rauf said he'd seek funds from overseas to finance the $100 million project. But a mosque spokesman refused last week to say whether they'd reject money from the Holocaust-denying and nuclear-weapons-seeking Iranian government.

Department spokesman Darby Holladay would only repeatedly say that Rauf, "has been advised not to engage in fund-raising activity" during his jaunt.

Holladay also wouldn't say whether a representative from the department would be monitoring Rauf's activities.

"I have no information regarding his travelling party," he said.

The anger over the imam's availability was only one concern for Rauf -- his message about an "Americanized" version of Islam also had many Bahrainis seeing red....

Hmmm . I guess the modified kinder gentile version of Islam pushed in the U.S. doesn’t play so well in the Middle East where Islam was born.
In the Middle East Muslims take Islam seriously!

Ramadan hits Baghdad. The holiest month of Islam was off to
a slow start before a devout Sunni managed to detonate himself
in a crowd of young police hopefuls, killing 59 "Shiite apostates
."

With the above and the below one would think Muslims might find a bit more humble path here in the USA but to some Muslims the upper path shown here must be maintained at all cost and they have NO SHAME!

Pakistan: Flood aid withheld from "non-Muslim" Ahmadis as country depends on aid from... non-Muslims

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2010/08/pa...n-muslims.html

Just in the past few days, the wealthy Gulf states and the Organization of the Islamic Conference have come fashionably late to the party after weeks of leaving aid groups, international media, and other people Allah hates for asking too many questions (Sahih Bukhari 2.24.555) wondering what the holdup was. Note in particular, at the summary linked above, the fabulous bonanza from Kuwait, of an astronomical $5 million dollars.

Non-Muslim nations continue to bear the brunt of demonstrating the compassion and generosity that the petrodollar-glutted Gulf nations won't. Meanwhile, in Pakistan: aid from non-Muslims? Bring it on! Send more! (Well, maybe not you, India.) Aid to non-Muslims? If you're lucky. And it's not the first time Muslims in Pakistan have attempted to coerce non-Muslims to convert by blackmailing them with hunger and the withholding of life's most basic essentials.
Quid pro quo, kuffar. "The politics of relief: Aliens in their own land," by Abdul Manan for the Express Tribune, August 18 (thanks to GS):
The government and local clerics refused to shelter around 500 flood-affected families belonging to the Ahmadiya community in South Punjab's relief camps. Not only that, the government also did not send relief goods to the flood-hit areas belonging to the Ahmadiya community, The Express Tribune has learnt during a visit to the devastated Punjab districts of Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur.
For its part, the government claims that all relief goods are being distributed among survivors without discrimination. And that all survivors have been sheltered in relief camps without distinction. The flood-devastated families from the Ahmadiya community have strongly criticised the government's "discriminatory attitude" even at a time when the entire country is reeling from the ravages of the worst flooding in living memory.
Of the 500 Ahmadi families, 350 belong to DG Khan, 60 to Muzaffargarh and 65 to Rajanpur district. According to Ahmadiya community leaders, over 2,500 members of their community have been displaced and are now living with their relatives while some of them have left for Rabwah, the community's headquarters.
Aziz Ahmad Khan, a local leader of flood victims from the Ahmadiya community in DG Khan, told The Express Tribune that all members of his family have complained of discrimination in DG Khan. He said 200 families from Basti Rindan and Basti Sohrani, 60 from Chah Ismaeel Wala, three from Rakh Mor Jangi, 18 from Ghazi Ghat and 12 from Jhakar Imam Shah of Ahmadpur. Khan alleged that 200 families, who have been displaced from Basti Rindan and Basti Sohrani by flooding, took shelter in a state-run school at Jhok Utra but within days the local administration forced them to leave the school. He said the local administration later told them that people from the surrounding areas did not want the Ahmadis in the relief camp. And that the administration could not allow them to stay at the camp as it could create a law and order situation....

Exclamation Which Islam Will Prevail in America?

Which Islam Will Prevail in America?

That is the real question at hand in the Ground Zero mosque debate.

The real battle for religious freedom lurks beneath the Ground Zero mosque controversy. It is sadly ironic that our public debate presents the mosque proponentsas the partisans of liberty: That includes everyone from imam Feisal Rauf, the project’s sharia-touting sponsor, to President Obama, Mayor Bloomberg, and the rest of the Islamist-smitten Left, to the GOP’s own anti-anti-terrorist wing. Yet, wittingly or not, when they champion this mosque and its sponsors, it is the agenda of an alien and authoritarian Islam that they champion — an Islam against which many American Muslims chafe.

When it comes to liberty, no one in this society has been given a wider berth than the Islamists, the purveyors of this authoritarian Islam, which is the mainstream Islam of the Middle East. Their vise grip on the American Muslim community has been cinched for two decades by the government, the media, and the academy. For our post-American ruling class, “Islamic outreach” means prostituting themselves for Saudi largesse; it means putting the “moderate” label on the Muslim Brotherhood — the Saudi-backed saboteurs whose American operatives boldly promise to “eliminate and destroy Western Civilization from within.”

The victims of this lethal charade include American Muslims. They, too, crave religious liberty and Western enlightenment. Our elites abandon them to the sharia-mongers. That freedom destroyers have been allowed to pose as freedom defenders ought to tell mosque opponents something: We have done a poor job of explaining the stakes.

In 1993, I headed up a prosecution team that was preparing to try the “Blind Sheikh” Omar Abdel Rahman and eleven other jihadists for conducting a terrorist war against the United States. The case revealed this country’s Muslim divide.

On one side were patriotic American Muslims, without whom successful prosecution would have been impossible. Not only did they infiltrate the terror cells, they helped us shape the resulting evidence into a compelling narrative. On the other side were the Muslim Brotherhood’s satellites. These included outfits like CAIR (the Council on American-Islamic Relations), which was formed in 1994 by the Brotherhood’s Hamas-support wing, with seed money from an Islamic “charity” — the Holy Land Foundation — later shut down for financing foreign terrorist organizations. These Brotherhood satellites purport to speak for American Muslims. In fact, they speak for anti-American Muslims, most of whom are outside the United States. They demagogued the case as a phobic criminalization of Islam itself, just as they have libeled America since 9/11 as being “at war with Islam.”

Translating evidence into English turned out to be a Herculean challenge during our trial preparation. Most of our evidence was in Arabic, because almost all of our defendants had immigrated here from Egypt and Sudan, hotbeds of anti-American Islam. The resulting mounds of documents, wiretap recordings, and inflammatory sermons overstretched the Justice Department’s thin Arabic-language capacity. To ease the strain, we tried to retain some civilians as private contractors. A number of local Muslims expressed interest, but in the end they turned us down.

BROTHERHOOD ISLAM vs. AMERICAN ISLAM
Mind you, they wanted to help. They were as offended as anyone by what the terrorists had done. These folks were Americans. They were the kind of Muslims you’re never exposed to, given the media’s preference for jihad apologists who, when not applauding him, claim Osama bin Laden was “made in the U.S.A.” But the would-be translators wanted ironclad assurance that their assistance to the prosecution would be kept confidential. It was an assurance I was not in a position to give, so they politely declined.

Here’s the most depressing part: It wasn’t really a matter of safety. There was surely some element of that — it goes with the territory in terrorism cases. But these people were mostly worried that they and their families would be ostracized in their communities as traitors to Islam.

In Muslim communities, I learned, many people — especially American Muslims — were supportive of our investigations. Of course they didn’t like the light of suspicion being shined on Muslims, not any more than Italian Americans liked the attention our mafia cases thrust on their communities. Yet they tuned out the CAIR chorus, just as most sensible people tune out the grievance industry. They reserved most of their resentment for the malevolent, anti-American actors in their midst. They understood that public safety is the government’s highest obligation. As long as they could do it quietly, they were willing to help.

But doing it quietly was imperative. Most American Muslims are not instinctively different from other Americans. But American Muslim communities are peculiar. In many of them, the leadership of the mosques and Islamic centers is foreign (or at least foreign-influenced). This leadership tends to be anti-Western and arrogant, claiming an Islamic authenticity Americans are said to lack. Many American Muslims are intimidated into silence. They are cowed by the specter of being condemned as too American. In Islam, there is no more grievous offense than causing disunity through infidelity. It is no small thing when community leaders frame a Muslim as insufficiently loyal to the ummah, the notional Islamic nation.

American Muslims are also taken aback by the ease with which their community leaders straddle the line between preaching Islam and cheerleading for terrorists. Why, they wonder, does their government, the U.S. government, consistently elevate America-bashing Islamists who can’t give a straight answer when asked about Hamas and Hezbollah? Why not highlight Muslims who are pro-American and unambiguously anti-terrorist — Muslims who desperately need the support?

Most of the mosques and Islamic centers in our country are controlled, to a greater or lesser degree, by the Muslim Brotherhood and its satellites. The North American Islamic Trust (NAIT) was established in the early Seventies to buy up property for the establishment of American mosques and “Islamic centers,” the latter being what the Brotherhood calls “the axis” of the Islamist movement in America. The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) supplies literature and vets imams. Both NAIT and ISNA, along with CAIR and other Brotherhood groups, were identified by the Justice Department as unindicted coconspirators in the recent Hamas-financing prosecution against the Holy Land Foundation. These Islamists owe their vision to the Brotherhood. Just as important, they owe their livelihood, influence, and power to moneyed Middle East patrons, particularly the Saudis.

The Kingdom and the Brotherhood have combined for a half-century to put American Muslim communities in a stranglehold. They proselytize a fundamentalist interpretation of Islam — an amalgam of Saudi Wahhabism and Brotherhood Salafism — that is virulently anti-Western. Its instruction to Muslims in the United States, Canada, and Europe is voluntary apartheid: Immigrate but don’t integrate, infiltrate but don’t assimilate.

SHARIA OR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM?
This brand of Islam is designed to create parallel Muslim enclaves, resistant to America’s freedom culture and to Western civilization, just as it created the liberty-killing “no-go zones” now sprouting up throughout Europe. It is designed to snuff out religious freedom, pressuring American Muslims to adopt the Islamists’ social mores, financial practices, and anti-Western outlook. And the authoritarian device it uses to establish and control these enclaves is sharia, Islam’s legal and political framework, which aspires to control of all aspects of life — not just spiritual life, but all of life.

It is the Brotherhood’s objective to thread sharia through American law and culture. This mission drives imam Feisal Rauf’s work, as documented by the Center for Security Policy’s Christine Brim in an eye-popping report at Andrew Breitbart’s Big Peace website.

Since 2006, Rauf has been developing the “Sharia Index Project.” His partners in this venture include longtime Muslim Brotherhood honcho Jamal Barzinji, a top official at the International Institute of Islamic Thought. The IIIT, a major backer of the convicted terrorist Sami al-Arian, is one of the Brotherhood satellites that republished Rauf’s book, What’s Right with Islam Is What’s Right with America, the book that was released in Malaysia under the more telling title, A Call to Prayer from the World Trade Center Rubble: Islamic Dawa in the Heart of America Post-9/11. (The other Brotherhood organization behind the republication of Rauf’s book was the aforementioned ISNA.) As Ms. Brim explains, the purpose of Rauf’s Sharia Index Project is “to benchmark” every country’s compliance with sharia, with an eye toward pressuring them to adopt and enforce more.

The United States is not going to become a sharia state anytime soon. That obvious fact has commentators pooh-poohing the encroaching peril, even as we watch Europe succumb before our eyes, as if no-go zones, honor killings, the Balkanizing of society, and the strangulation of freedom could never happen here. On Tuesday, for example, in an otherwise insightful column on the Left’s incoherence in the mosque controversy, the Wall Street Journal’s James Taranto took an offhanded swipe at the “fringe right’s ravings about ‘Shariah.’” But are the concerns really “ravings,” and are they truly confined to a right-wing “fringe”?

It so happened that in the same day’s Journal, Bret Stephens penned a sharp essay about Muslim “moderates” who turn out not to be so moderate. As his counterpoint, he offered a courageous, progressive Muslim reformer, Irshad Manji. Rather than pretending that Islamic doctrine has nothing to do with terrorism, Ms. Manji is forthrightly confronting the doctrine and working to change it. What is it that needs change? As illustrated in her spellbinding book, The Trouble with Islam Today: A Muslim’s Call for Reform in Her Faith, much of what ails Islam is sharia sclerosis. Sharia, she elaborates, represents the legal opinions of classical Muslim jurists, frozen a millennium ago and, ever since, impervious to critical inquiry.

Frozen it remains thanks to atavistic zealots, prominent among them the Muslim Brotherhood, an organization founded by fundamentalists in the 1920s and lavishly funded by the Saudis since the 1950s, an outfit Manji correctly describes as “the al-Qaeda of its generation.” These Islamists are the true enemies of religious liberty. It is they who foreclose modern Muslims from the right to reason independently, to evolve.

Whether Ground Zero mosque proponents realize it or not, the cause they are advancing — against the will of the American people, and, perversely, under the guise of “religious freedom” — is the Islamist cause. It is the Brotherhood, not American Muslims, insisting that this monument must be imposed on this sacred spot.

It is a “considerable comfort,” Mr. Stephens writes, “to know that there are Muslims in the U.S. like Irshad who are working, tirelessly but mainly out of view, toward the cause of reform. They could use more support and recognition.” But, of course, their tireless work must happen “out of view,” because the Islamists have made it too dangerous for them to work openly. And they are denied support and recognition because the post-American ruling class has made its bed with sharia salesmen like Rauf, who blame America for 9/11 and can’t bring themselves to say Hamas is a terrorist organization.

By contrast, American Muslims grasp that 9/11 was an attack on their country, too. Their emerging leaders, such as Zuhdi Jasser and Steven Schwartz, have started organizations — respectively, the American Islamic Forum for Democracy and the Center for Islamic Pluralism — that promote freedom and offer Muslims an escape from the Brotherhood’s clutches. As Messrs. Jasser and Schwartz relate, American Muslims understand the significance of Ground Zero to our nation, to the families of those who were slaughtered, and to the enemy against whom we are still fighting. They know that, in contrast to the innate intolerance of sharia states, the United States opens its arms to people of all faiths, including Muslims. Like Ms. Manji, they are struggling, against daunting opposition, to forge an Islam that embraces Western values, that reveres religious faith but denies it temporal authority.

The Ground Zero mosque controversy is not about religious liberty for Muslims. It is about which Islam will thrive in the United States: the one that is fighting Americans, or the one American Muslims are fighting for.

Exclamation AP Gets its ‘Facts’ Wrong: Fact Checking Agenda Journalists

AP Gets its ‘Facts’ Wrong:
Fact Checking Agenda Journalists

Stop the presses! This just in: The Associated Press “standards center” has issued a “staff advisory” on covering what is to be known from here on out as “the New York City mosque.” From now on, the AP “staff” – and, therefore, everybody who still actually reads newspapers that still actually use the wire service’s copy – is supposed to conform to what amounts to the Muslim Brotherhood narrative about the Islamic cultural center formerly known as the “Ground Zero mosque.”

AP’s Deputy Managing Editor for Standards and Production, Tom Kent, sent this “guidance” out to his colleagues yesterday, with inputs from Chad Roedemeier in the New York bureau and Terry Hunt in Washington: “We should continue to avoid the phrase ‘Ground Zero mosque’ or ‘mosque at Ground Zero’ on all platforms. (We’ve very rarely used this wording, except in slugs, though we sometimes see other news sources using the term.) The site of the proposed Islamic center and mosque is not at Ground Zero, but two blocks away in a busy commercial area. We should continue to say it’s “near” Ground Zero, or two blocks away.”

Interestingly, among those who formerly used the now-proscribed descriptor “Ground Zero mosque” is none other than Feisal Abdul Rauf, its imam and chief promoter. He called it that even though the proposed venue has always been two blocks away from the World Trade Center site.

Perhaps Rauf used this moniker because his planned location for the mosque was part of the real estate attacked and damaged on 9/11 – the home of the Burlington Coat Factory until it was struck by a landing gear from a plane that struck one of the Twin Towers. Perhaps he used that term to brand his “Cordoba House” because body parts from the victims of those attacks have been found all over Lower Manhattan, including the old Burlington factory area, making it part of the hallowed ground.

Or perhaps, Imam Rauf called his project the Ground Zero mosque because he wanted to associate his 15-story, $100 million complex as closely as possible to the location where nearly 3,000 Americans and other innocent people – precisely because they were murdered there by people who wanted, as he does, to “bring shariah to America.”

(See www.NoMosqueAtGroundZero.com). Yes, it was for Cordoba – where a Catholic church was converted into the world’s third largest mosque by the Moorish conquerors of Spain – that Rauf wanted initially to name his Ground Zero mosque.

We can’t get a clarification from Imam Rauf about precisely why he wanted to call his complex the Ground Zero mosque. He seems to be incommunicado as he is, just now, on an extended overseas stay, including stops in Malaysia and a U.S. taxpayer-underwritten trip to Middle East capitals. This foray could not be more convenient as the imam seeks to raise the nine-figure sum required to build his facility now being repackaged as simply an address: “Park 51.”

In his absence, it has mostly fallen to Muslim Brotherhood operatives associated with fronts like the Council on American Islamic Relations and the Muslim American Society to tout the mosque. And all they want to do is get others – especially in the media and government – to drive home themes like those presented as “facts” by the Associated Press.

The Brotherhood has already succeeded brilliantly at this in the past. For example, the “guidelines” adopted in October 2001 by the Society of Professional Journalists explicitly call for its members to use spellings “preferred by the American Muslim Council, including ‘Muhammad,’ ‘Quran,’ and ‘Makkah,’ not ‘Mecca’ – at a time when the AMC was one of the most prominent Brotherhood fronts in the United States.

The guidelines also endorsed a quintessential bit of Brotherhood taqqiya for the consumption of non-Muslims: “The basic meaning of ‘jihad’ is to exert oneself for the good of Islam and to better oneself.” In fact, there is no basis in doctrinal Islam for concluding that jihad means anything other than waging holy war for the triumph of shariah. These and similar guidelines have contributed to grievously deficient reporting on the true nature of shariah and its insinuation into the United States.

It behooves us, therefore, to do a fact check on AP’s “fact check”:
AP: “A New York imam and his proposed mosque near ground zero are being demonized by political candidates — mostly Republicans — despite the fact that Islam is already very much a part of the World Trade Center neighborhood. And that Muslims pray inside the Pentagon, too, less than 80 feet from where terrorists attacked.”
THE FACTS: “Demonized” is a loaded term that denigrates the criticism Republicans and a growing number of Democrats – including Sen. Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader – have properly made of the site of the Ground Zero Mosque and, in some cases, of its Imam. The issue is not whether Muslims pray in proximity to Ground Zero – or the Pentagon’s equally hallowed ground. Rather, it is whether they and the facility in which they pray are dedicated to the promotion of the seditious, anti-constitutional program of Shariah. If so, it is a problem. If not, not.
AP: “…The imam [Rauf] who’s being branded an extremist has been valued by both Republican and Democratic administrations as a moderate face of the faith.”
THE FACTS: The salient point is not that Rauf is being “branded an extremist.” It is that he is an avid promoter of shariah in the United States. That means, by definition, that he wishes to impose an intolerant, misogynistic and supremacist political program and system of law inside our country – with the ultimate purpose of replacing our Constitution, system of government and way of life with something akin to those of Saudi Arabia.

For most Americans that would be correctly seen as an “extremist” agenda. Suffice it to say it is an unacceptable one – even though U.S. administrations of both parties failed to recognize or treat it as such, provided that agenda is advanced “non-violently.”

It is as much an indictment of our government as of the stealth jihadists like Rauf that it has allowed them, and in some cases funded them, to pursue the same objectives as al Qaeda – namely, establishment of a global Caliphate applying shariah worldwide, albeit through means the Muslim Brotherhood calls “civilization jihad,” rather than terror.
AP: “…Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is a complex figure who defies easy categorization in the American Muslim world.”
THE FACTS: Rauf is only “complex” to the extent that journalists or government officials fail to do due diligence on him. To be sure, he engages in the shariah-authorized practice of taqqiya – dissembling for the faith – when speaking to non-Muslims about “bridge-building” and tolerance.

His real purpose, however, is made clear in his books, notably Islam: A Sacred Law – What Every Muslim Should Know About Shariah, in which Rauf enthuses about the Wahhabi and Salafi doctrines. Then, there are his associations with Muslim Brotherhood fronts like the Islamic Society of North America and the International Institute of Islamic Thought, that published a special edition of his book What’s Right About Islam is What’s Right about America. (Interestingly, it appeared in Malaysia under the very different title: A Call to Prayer from the WTC Rubble: Islamic Dawah in the Heart of America Post 9/11). But most instructive of all is Rauf’s commitment to shariah, which clearly defines him as one of the problems in the so-called “American Muslim world.”
AP: “[Rauf’s] devoted much of his career to working closely with Christians, Jews and secular leaders to advance interfaith understanding. He’s scolded his own religion for being in some ways in the “Dark Ages.”
THE FACTS: Like many in the Muslim Brotherhood movement, Rauf has used “interfaith dialogue” as a useful cover for obscuring his true purposes – realizing “a perfect shariah nation” here. This is generally most successful among religious leaders of other faiths who have no notion of what shariah is, let alone that they are being exploited to help insinuate it into the United States.

As to “scolding his own religion,” shariah is a product of the “Dark Ages” and it condemns all those who are subjected to its dictates to living largely in such primitive and brutal times. Look at Saudi Arabia, Iran, Somalia, Sudan and the Taliban-controlled areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
AP: “[Rauf has] also accused the U.S. of spilling more innocent blood than al-Qaeda, the terrorist network that turned the World Trade Center, part of the Pentagon and four hijacked airplanes to apocalyptic rubble.” “In a July 2005 speech at the Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Center in Adelaide, Australia, while calling terrorism unjustified, he said the U.S. has supported authoritarian regimes with heinous human rights records and, faced with that, ‘How else do people get attention?’”
THE FACTS: Rauf has, indeed, given such evidence of his true colors – in the process of doing so, overlooking the inconvenient fact that his shariah-adherent friends in al Qaeda and myriad similar Islamist organizations and various Muslim nations have killed vastly more of his co-religionists than has the United States or anybody else. Other clues? He has also refused to condemn the terrorist group, Hamas. And he has helped fund the flotilla that violently tried to run Israel’s defensive blockade of Gaza.
AP: “Far more than a local zoning issue, the matter [of the Ground Zero mosque] has seized congressional campaigns, put President Barack Obama and his party on the spot — he says Muslims have the right to build the mosque — divided families of the September 11, 2001 victims, caught the attention of Muslims abroad and threatened to blur distinctions between mainstream Islam in the U.S. and its radical elements.”
THE FACTS: Shariah is mainstream Islam. The parts of the world where Islam is not practiced in accordance with its dictates have simply not been subjected fully to them as yet. Shariah’s practices and requirements are objectively “radical.” But they are also derived from the sacred texts, traditions, interpretations and scholarly consensus of the faith, making them mainstream.
AP: “No one has established a link between the cleric and radicals. New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne said, “We’ve identified no law enforcement issues related to the proposed mosque.”
THE FACTS: Because the term “radicals” with respect to Islam has come to be reserved for those who pursue the jihad (holy war) commanded by shariah only through violent means, the myriad, obvious and longstanding ties Rauf has to those pursuing jihad through non-violent means, by definition, do not count. It is particularly troubling that the NYPD sees “no law enforcement issues related to the proposed mosque.” After all, the Department itself issued a report in August 2008 warning that Wahhabi mosques like the one Rauf wishes to build within “spitting distance” of Ground Zero are incubators for terrorism. The spokesman’s statement suggests the NYPD is no longer alive to this danger, perhaps in deference to political direction from Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a vociferous champion of the Ground Zero mosque.
AP: “Rauf counts former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright from the Clinton administration as a friend and appeared at events overseas or meetings in Washington with former President George W. Bush’s secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice, and Bush adviser Karen Hughes.”
THE FACTS: All three of the character witnesses AP cites on Rauf’s behalf displayed abysmal judgment about Muslim Brotherhood operatives and agendas while in office. Rauf is hardly the only one to benefit from government-enabled travel, access to senior officials, legitimization and the opportunity to influence American foreign and domestic policy. Madeleine Albright has continued to demonstrate such bad judgment after leaving office by co-chairing the U.S.-Muslim Engagement Initiative, a highly successful Brotherhood-tied influence operation geared toward bipartisan and interfaith elites.
AP: “No mosque is going up at ground zero. The center would be established at 45-51 Park Place, just over two blocks from the northern edge of the sprawling, 16-acre World Trade Center site. Its location is roughly half a dozen normal lower Manhattan blocks from the site of the North Tower, the nearer of the two destroyed in the attacks.

The center’s location, in a former Burlington Coat Factory store, is already used by the cleric for worship, drawing a spillover from the imam’s former main place for prayers, the al-Farah mosque. That mosque, at 245 West Broadway, is about a dozen blocks north of the World Trade Center grounds. Another, the Manhattan Mosque, stands five blocks from the northeast corner of the World Trade Center site.”
THE FACTS: As noted above, it is not unreasonable to characterize the site as being “at” Ground Zero, given that it was one of the buildings damaged in the 9/11 attack, is within the zone over which the remains of the murdered were scattered and has been called by the promoter of the initiative himself “the Ground Zero mosque.”

The fact that other mosques are found in Manhattan simply makes the point that the issue is with Feisal Abdul Rauf, his agenda and his mosque, not with freedom of worship.
AP: “To be sure, the center’s association with 9/11 is intentional and its location is no geographic coincidence. The building was damaged in the Sept. 11 attacks and the center’s planners say they want the center to stand as a statement against terrorism.”
THE FACTS: The promoters of this mosque are indeed intentionally situating it at Ground Zero, but as shariah does not consider the murder of infidels to be “terrorism,” its adherents can condemn “terrorism” – defined as the unlawful killing of innocents who are, by definition only believers in Islam – without even having to resort to taqqiya (intentional lying).
AP: After quoting Newt Gingrich and a Florida congressional candidate to the effect that our “civilization” and “way of life” are on the line, AP referred approvingly (and surprisingly) to George W. Bush who “while criticized at the time for stirring suspicions about American Muslims, traveled to a Washington mosque less than a week after the attacks to declare that terrorism is ‘not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace.’”
THE FACTS: In the days and years after 9/11, President Bush rightly sought to make clear that the United States was not at war with all of Islam. In the process of doing so, however, he was subjected to the same sort of Muslim Brotherhood influence operations and disinformation that is much in evidence in this AP report. Islam’s shariah is not “peace.” Its adherents are committed to wage war against us, through violent means or stealthy ones. We confuse them with followers of a peaceful religion, entitled to the full protection of religious freedom guaranteed under our Constitution, at our extreme peril.
AP: “The U.S. armed forces field Muslim troops and make accommodations for them. The Pentagon opened an interfaith chapel in November 2002 close to the area where hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 slammed into the building, killing 184 people. Muslims gather there for a daily prayer service Monday through Thursday and hold a weekly worship service on Fridays, drawing no complaints. Similar but separate services are provided for other faiths.”
THE FACTS: To the extent Muslim soldiers follow the dictates of shariah, as did Major Nidal Malik Hasan, the perpetrator of the Ft. Hood massacre last November, they are a danger to their comrades, and potentially to the rest of us. Accommodations like those that kept him in the service despite evidence of his devotion to shariah are an invitation to jihadism in the ranks.

As noted above, there is no objection to having interfaith chapels in proximity to hallowed ground, so long as what is practiced in them is not promoting a totalitarian program that is about power, not faith – specifically the replacement of the U.S. Constitution to which every serviceman and woman has sworn an oath. And that is precisely what Feisal Abdul Rauf intends to do should he be allowed to open a megamosque at Ground Zero, or any place else in America.

Arrow Virginia's notorious Dar al-Hijrah mosque has prominent role in Ground Zero mosque

Lead trustee of Virginia's notorious Dar al-Hijrah mosque has prominent role in Ground Zero mosque project

If you're looking to bolster your "moderate" credentials for public consumption, including in your project a founder of what has arguably been the single most problematic mosque in America is probably a bad idea. Probably.

"Ground Zero mosque modeled after notorious 9/11 mosque?" from WorldNetDaily, August 22:
The New York imam behind the Ground Zero mosque has struck a partnership with the founder of the so-called 9/11 mosque in the Washington suburbs that gave aid and comfort to some of the 9/11 hijackers, WND has learned.
Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf counts the lead trustee of the Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center among partners in his Cordoba Initiative, which features a 13-story mosque and a "cultural center" for his project to bring shariah, or Islamic law, to America.
Now, now, it's "Park 51" now, which is apparently meant less to sound like a triumphalist mega-mosque, and more like it would blast techno at all hours for spiky-haired hipsters in skinny jeans.
Families of 9/11 victims oppose construction of the proposed site so close to Ground Zero.
Jamal Barzinji, one of the founders of the radical Muslim Brotherhood in America, also founded Dar al-Hijrah in Falls Church, Va., which is run by the pro-jihad Brotherhood. The mosque has been tied to numerous terrorism plots, including the 9/11 attacks.
In December 2008, the Brotherhood's U.S. think tank -- the International Institute of Islamic Thought, or IIIT - hosted Rauf. During their meeting, IIIT's leadership, including Barzinji, "pledged cooperation and support" for Rauf's project, according to this screenshot of the description of the event from IIIT's scrubbed Web archives.
Rauf's partner Barzinji is a founder and director of IIIT, which is under active federal investigation for funneling funds to Palestinian terrorists. Its Herndon, Va., offices were raided by federal agents after 9/11.
The U.S. government has accused Barzinji of being "closely associated" with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hamas and other terrorist organizations. He has not been charged with a crime, however.
Barzinji personally authorized the development of Dar al-Hijrah, according to Fairfax County, Va., property records obtained by investigative journalist Paul Sperry, author of "Infiltration" and "Muslim Mafia."
Records also show the North American Islamic Trust, a recently named unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terror-financing case in U.S. history, holds the deed to the radical mosque. Barzinji is listed as a NAIT trustee on the document, and his signature appears on the deed.
In November 2008, Barzinji personally chaired a meeting at IIIT's Herndon headquarters to launch an abridged edition of Rauf's book, "What's Right with Islam Is What's Right with America," in which he calls for the establishment of a parallel system of justice in America run by Islamic jurists. Barzinji's brother's printing company published the digest.
Rauf's partnership with Barzinji and IIIT worries critics of the Ground Zero mosque in New York, who fear it will attract the kind of dubious foreign sponsorship and terrorist elements associated with Dar al-Hijrah.
Built in 1991 with $5 million from the Saudi Embassy, Dar al-Hijrah employed Imam Anwar Awlaki as its prayer leader from 2000 to 2002. Awlaki, aka Aulaqi, counseled two of the 9/11 hijackers in closed-door meetings, and is believed to have played a central role in the plot. The fugitive al-Qaida leader is now hiding in Yemen.
He also radicalized Fort Hood shooter Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, Christmas Day airline bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab and, most recently, Times Square car bomber Faisal Shahzad.
The U.S. last month designated Awlaki a "key leader of al-Qaida" and froze his assets.
"Anwar al-Aulaqi is extraordinarily dangerous," said Stuart Levey, Treasury undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence. "He has involved himself in every aspect of the supply chain of terrorism -- fundraising for terrorist groups, recruiting and training operatives, and planning and ordering attacks on innocents."
Dar al-Hijrah's leadership is closely tied to the radical Muslim Brotherhood, a worldwide jihadist movement....

Daisy Khan says opposition to Ground Zero mosque "like metastasized antisemitism"

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2010/08/wo...isemitism.html

Of course, Islam knows not a thing about the hatred of Jews. Except for passages like the ones found below (linked from pro-Islamic sources), including:

Qur'an 4:46, which says Allah has cursed the Jews for their disbelief.

Qur'an 5:41, which says the Jews love a lie.

Qur'an 5:51, which commands: "O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust."

Qur'an 5:64, which says Jews' goal is mischief/corruption in the land. See 5:33 for the penalty for that.

Qur'an 5:82, which says "Strongest among men in enmity to the believers wilt thou find the Jews and Pagans."

Qur'an 9:30, which castigates the Jews for extolling Ezra as the son of Allah (what?).

Then there's the good old ahadith. Sahih (i.e., sound, or reliable in the Sunni tradition) Bukhari 4.52.177: "Allah's Apostle said, "The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. "O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him."

Bottom line: Is Daisy Khan accusing us of hating Muslims as much as Allah hates Jews?

Of course, Khan & Co. know this is not about hate. Accusations of hatred are a cheap shot, and a desperate shot aimed at stopping substantive discussions. But we won't stop asking questions and demanding answers.

Anyway, you will want to read this one sitting down. "Islamic center leader says site is not moving," from Politico, August 22:
Daisy Khan, one of the leading organizers behind the mosque and Islamic community center near ground zero in New York City, said Sunday that moving the project to another location is not currently on the table.
"Right now it's not, until we consult with all our stakeholders," Khan told ABC News' "This Week with Christiane Amanpour." She appeared on the program with Rabbi Joy Levitt, executive director of the Jewish Community Center in Manhattan and an adviser on the project.
Khan said she believed the project would be built.
"Of course, it has to go ahead," she said. "There's so much at stake."
Asked if America was "Islamophobic," Khan responded that it's like "metastasized anti-Semitism."
"It's not even Islamophobia, it's beyond Islamophobia -- it's hate of Muslims," she said. "And we are deeply concerned."
No, it isn't, Daisy:
"I let no man drag me down so low as to make me hate him." - Booker T. Washington

New Islam: A Project without a Caliphate *

The conflict between Western domination and the Islamic Movement involves numerous entwined battles and implied confrontations that reveal the reality of the problem and the reality of the differences between the Islamic project on one hand and the Western project on the other.

At the heart of the battle between globalization as a Western project and the Islamic civilization project, the issue of the Islamic Caliphate gets caught in the crossfire. Although an Islamic Caliphate does not currently exist, it is there in all the battles between the West and the Islamic Movement, in all the battles of secularism with the Islamic project, and in all the battles of the ruling regimes and secular elites against the Islamic Movement.

It could be argued that Islamic political unity represents the essence of the battle. Consequently, the idea is besieged by all parties who are hostile to the Islamic project, or against it, in order to diminish the status of political unity of the UMMAH in the Islamic discourse and remove it as an essential maxim of the Islamic Movement.

The maxim of an Islamic Caliphate and a United Islamic State represents the dream of millions of Muslims; it is the banner that brings together all Arab and Muslim countries, and the most prominent title of the rising history of the Islamic ummah . This maxim is strong enough to gather the Ummah, unite its orientation, and motivate it to realize its own unity.

In the collective Western mind, the idea of restoring the United Islamic State represents a project to create a superpower that would implicitly challenge Western countries and the United States of America, which is the only superpower in the world today.

The West believes that once the United Islamic State is established, its domination over the world shall cease, because the United Islamic State shall separate the West from the rest of the world and occupy the heart of the world. By default, the United Islamic State would put an end to the West as a superpower and, more importantly, to the role of Western civilization as the dominant advanced civilization.

The dream of a United Islamic State is a repeat of the history of the West with the Islamic State in its various phases. The West was unable to achieve global control and dominion until the Islamic Caliphate fell, because this Caliphate was the last global cultural challenge to Western nations.

The State of the Muslim civilization frees the world, while the State of Western civilization colonizes it. This is the contrast and irony, which renders the covert war on the idea of the Islamic State the essence of the current battle and future confrontations.

The West has been doing its best to contain the Islamic Movement within its borders.Western countries can be divided into those hostile to the Islamic Movement and those which besiege it territorially and nationally. This has created the idea of merging the Islamic Movement into the political process to be a part of the competing political trends within the framework of the territorial nation-state and to ensure its compliance with the conditions of working therein.

What is Islam without an Islamic State? What is the Islamic project without an Islamic Caliphate? This is the issue and the essence of the conflict with the dominant Western civilization. The West will end up victorious if the Islamic project is besieged from within by territorial nationalism. The only way for the Islamic project to win this battle is to go out of the siege of territorial nationalism and declare the dream of its Ummah to restore the United Islamic State.

One of the results of the severe siege on the idea of the United Islamic State is the emergence of those who adopt the idea of the Islamic project without the idea of the Islamic Caliphate or State, because the maxim of the Islamic State itself implies a United Islamic State, that is, the state of the Islamic Caliphate. "Moderate" Ground Zero mega-mosque imam:
U.S. has more blood on its hands than Al-Qaeda

Why is everyone so sure that the Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is a "moderate"? Because he says he is, silly, and why on earth should we doubt him? But he also says other things. Pamela Geller has an exclusive on the shocking details plus audio of Rauf's statements. Speaking in Australia in 2005, Rauf said these things and more:
"We tend to forget, in the West, that the United States has more Muslim blood on its hands than al Qaida has on its hands of innocent non Muslims. You may remember that the US-led sanctions against Iraq led to the death of over half a million Iraqi children. This has been documented by the United Nations. And when Madeleine Albright, who has become a friend of mine over the last couple of years, when she was Secretary of State and was asked whether this was worth it, said it was worth it."
Pamela Geller notes: "No mention of the 270 million victims of over a millennium of jihadi wars, land appropriations, cultural annihilation and enslavement. No mention of the recent slaughter by Muslims of Christians, Hindus, Jews, non-believers in Indonesia, Thailand, Ethiopia, Somalia, Philippines, Lebanon, Israel, Russia, China................ no candor, no criticism of Islam."

There is a great deal more, and it is damning. Be sure to read it all, and listen to the audio.

Palestinian Researcher: A Legal Victory in Ground Zero Mosque Could Cause the Muslims to Lose the Battle that Counts – The One for Coexistence

In a recent article in the PA daily Al-Ayyam, Dr. Khaled Al-Haroub, a Palestinian researcher at Cambridge University, praised the freedom and tolerance enjoyed by the Muslims in the West, and criticized the Muslims for waging legal battles over marginal issues like the Ground Zero mosque, which provoke Western society and could end up ruining their relations with their neighbors in the West.

Speaker Pelosi Extends Government Censorship to the Public
Pelosi actions renew need for congressional investigation into Islamic-oriented censorship

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Aug. 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Following Speaker Pelosi's call to investigate the supporters of the anti-Ground-Zero-Mosque movement, Pajamas Media CEO Roger L. Simon today renewed his call for a congressional investigation into the government's censorship of Islamic-oriented terminology. Simon explained Pelosi's actions are an extension of previously reported censorship inside the U.S. government relating to Islamic-oriented discussions by law enforcement and intelligence analysts.

"Speaker Nancy Pelosi has attempted to expand censorship into the public sphere with her threat to 'investigate' those who oppose the mosque. By using her name and office, Pelosi has tried to muzzle first amendment free speech, crossing the line in impinging on a sacred trust for all Americans," said Roger L. Simon, CEO of Pajamas Media. "So far, it has been internal government documents that have been sanitized of Islamic terminology such as 'Islam' and 'Sharia.' Now, the government is expanding that censorship to sanitize the public conversation. Shouldn't Congress be investigating the financial backing of the mosque, as opposed to the 61 percent of Americans, including Majority Leader Harry Reid and Howard Dean, who are opposed to the mega-mosque?"

PJTV has been at the forefront of this issue, exposing in an April 2010 video how the federal government and FBI have removed all Islamic references from the Fort Hood report and other national security documents.

CEO Roger L. Simon later suggested a four-part congressional investigation into the degree to which government documents were being sanitized of relevant religious identifiers. And when the attempted bombing of Times Square occurred, PJTV urged officials to avoid censoring reports, so as to provide the public with the most accurate depiction of the offenders.

"Given these new circumstances, I would like to renew my call for a congressional investigation," continued Simon. "In addition to the original request which urged Congress to investigate the possible censorship of Islamic terminology among government workers, I would like to request an examination of whether freedom of speech on similar matters is potentially being restricted – intentionally or unintentionally – by Members of Congress."

Roger L. Simon's article regarding this topic can be found here.

Arrow Ground Zero Mosque Imam: America Worse than al-Qaeda

The Islamic cleric who wants to build a mosque two blocks from Ground Zero once claimed in a jaw-dropping speech that the United States has killed more innocent civilians than al Qaeda.

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf's remarks five years ago have set off a fresh firestorm of controversy, dumping fuel on the already combustible debate surrounding the estimated $100 million Islamic cultural center, and infuriating mosque opponents, who are fighting to have it moved far from the site of the 9/11 attacks.

"We tend to forget, in the West, that the United States has more Muslim blood on its hands than al Qaeda has on its hands of innocent non-Muslims," Rauf said in 2005.

"You may remember that the US-led sanctions against Iraq led to the death of over half a million Iraqi children. This has been documented by the United Nations."

Rauf -- who made the incendiary comments in a speech about Islam in Adelaide, Australia -- said that even former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, whom he called a "friend," condoned the civilian deaths as "worth it."

"What complicates the discussion, intra-Islamically, is the fact that the West has not been cognizant and has not addressed the issue of its own contribution to much injustice in the Arab and Muslim world," he said. "It's a difficult subject to discuss with Western audiences, but it's one that must be pointed out and must be raised."

In the same speech, Rauf used the n-word, according to an audio of the event posted on the Web site AtlasShrugs.

Speaking about how people use different criteria to judge others in a negative way, he said, "If gender is not what distinguishes us, we'll look at skin coloring and say: n - - - - rs or whities, or whatever."

Debra Burlingame, head of 9/11 Families for a Strong America and a vocal opponent of the mosque, said she was disgusted when she heard the remarks.

"This man is out there preaching politics and advancing [anti-American] propaganda," she said.

Rauf has repeatedly claimed plans to build the Islamic center stem from his group's desire to promote tolerance. He routinely speaks out against terrorism, and famously spoke at murdered journalist Daniel Pearl's memorial service to advocate peace.

"Fanaticism and terrorism have no place in Islam," he said in a 2001 "60 Minutes" interview.

Meanwhile, Gov. Paterson and Archbishop Timothy Dolan are set to hold a private discussion at the governor's office today over the mosque. While no agenda was announced, both have previously suggested an alternative site for the mosque.

Quotes from Muhammad:

Bukhari:V4B52N220
"Allah's Apostle said, 'I have been made victorious with terror.'"

Qur'an:8:12
"I shall terrorize the infidels. So wound their bodies and incapacitate them because they oppose Allah and His Apostle."

Qur'an:8:67
"It is not fitting for any prophet to have prisoners until he has made a great slaughter in the land."

Ishaq:326
"Allah said, 'No Prophet before Muhammad took booty from his enemy nor prisoners for ransom.' Muhammad said, 'I was made victorious with terror. The earth was made a place for me to clean. I was given the most powerful words. Booty was made lawful for me. I was given the power to intercede. These five privileges were awarded to no prophet before me.'"

Qur'an:7:3
"Little do you remember My warning. How many towns have We destroyed as a raid by night? Our punishment took them suddenly while they slept for their afternoon rest. Our terror came to them; Our punishment overtook them."

Qur'an:33:26
"Allah made the Jews leave their homes by terrorizing them so that you killed some and made many captive. And He made you inherit their lands, their homes, and their wealth. He gave you a country you had not traversed before."

Exclamation Hate Speech from the Ground Zero Mosque Imam »

Hate Speech from the Ground Zero Mosque Imam
A new audio surfaces of Feisal Abdul Rauf explaining how the U.S. is worse than al-Qaeda
by Jamie Glazov

Frontpage Interview’s guest today is Pamela Geller, founder, editor and publisher of the popular and award-winning weblog AtlasShrugs.com. She has won acclaim for her interviews with internationally renowned figures, including John Bolton, Geert Wilders, Bat Ye’or, Natan Sharansky, and many others, and has broken numerous important stories — notably the questionable sources of some of the financing of the Obama campaign. Her op-eds have been published in The Washington Times, The American Thinker, Israel National News, Frontpage Magazine, World Net Daily, and New Media Journal, among other publications. She is the co-author (with Robert Spencer) of the new book, The Post-American Presidency: The Obama Administration’s War on America (forward by Ambassador John Bolton).

FP: Pamela Geller, welcome to Frontpage Interview.

I would like to talk you today about the discovery of more extreme and troubling statements that have come from the “moderate” Ground Zero mosque Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf. A new audio has surfaced. Tell us about it and when was it recorded.

Geller: Thanks Jamie, the audiotape, segments of which are available at AtlasShrugs.com, was recorded on July 12, 2005. It’s a speech Rauf gave at The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre in Australia. The speech reveals that he is not even close to being the “moderate” that the media always portrays him as being. This speech Rauf delivered contains numerous statements that belie his moderate image and raise serious questions about what the mega-mosque will really be standing for once it is up and running in lower Manhattan.

Like Osama bin Laden and other jihadis, Rauf blames America and sees America as more evil than the terrorists. Here is what he says about how the U.S. is worse than Al-Qaeda:
We tend to forget, in the West, that the United States has more Muslim blood on its hands than al-Qaeda has on its hands of innocent non-Muslims.You may remember that theUS-led sanctions against Iraq led to the death of over half a million Iraqi children. This has been documented by the United Nations. And when Madeleine Albright, who has become a friend of mineover the last couple of years, when she was Secretary of State and was asked whether this was worth it, said it was worth it.
We all know what a profoundly misleading statement this is. It is curious that Rauf makes no mention of the 270 million victims of over a millennium of jihadi wars, land appropriations, cultural annihilation and enslavement. Nor does he say anything about the recent slaughter by Muslims of Christians, Hindus, Jews, and non-believers in Indonesia, Thailand, Ethiopia, Somalia, Philippines, Lebanon, Israel, Russia, China. Rauf’s words manifest no candor, no willingness to admit that Muslims have ever done anything wrong. He shows none of the mutual respect and readiness to take responsibility that we might expect from someone with such a reputation as a “moderate.”

FP: This imam is painted to be some kind of great “moderate” but I am yet to hear what kind of reformation he is promoting for Islam.

Geller: Well Jamie, that’s because he isn’t calling out for any significant reforms. He says straight out that “Islam does not need a reformation.” He doesn’t say anything at all about all the jihadis who use Islamic texts to justify violence.

Also, in the course of his remarks in the speech we’re discussing, he uses the “N” word, referring to “n—-rs or whities.” I can’t help form wondering: Is the Reverend Al Sharpton, who has endorsed the Islamic supremacist mosque at Ground Zero, going to come forward and say something about this? Will he condemn Rauf? Will the mainstream media say something about it? Will they condemn Rauf? For whatever point the Imam was arguably trying to make, by what standards is he let off the hook for using the word, while others, like Dr. Laura recently (who used the term to make a point about its usage), is not and widely condemned?

Please, Rev. Sharpton and the media, do come forward and explain this all to us, so we’ll know the way that Rauf is using the “N” word that is acceptable for everyone else to use it.

FP: Rauf also shows a reluctance to admit that Muslims were involved in Islamic terrorism, right?

Geller: Yes, Jamie. At one point he says: “And when we observe terrorism, whether it was done by the Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka or by al-Qaeda or whoever is behind the bombings in London or those in Madrid…” Note that when he says about the London and Madrid bombings, he was speaking five days after the London attacks and over a year after those in Madrid. It was common knowledge who the perpetrators were at that time. But maybe Rauf didn’t want his listeners to be thinking about exactly who they were.

And while Imam Feisal speaks of tolerance, he praises the worst extremists and inciters to genocide. In his address in Australia he said he had just come from a conference in Jordan featuring “over 170 leading Muslim scholars from almost every part of the Muslim world, including some of the most important names like Sheikh Tantawi of Egypt, Sheikh Ali Gomaa, who is the Chief Mufti of Egypt, the Chief Mufti of Jordan, the Sheikh Al-Qaradawi, who is a very very well known Islamic jurist, highly regarded all over the Muslim world.”

The late Sheikh Tantawi several years ago endorsed suicide attacks against Israelis, as did Sheikh Qaradawi. Sheikh Gomaa has defended Islam’s death penalty for apostasy and sanction for wife-beating, and has endorsed the jihad terror group Hezbollah.

FP: And yet the media nurtures Rauf’s reputation to be that of a moderate.

Geller: That’s right, Jamie. And Rauf shows his true colors regarding Israel, also. He says he wants a “one-state solution” for Israel and the Palestinians. Given his advocacy for Islamic law, that means an Islamic supremacist Sharia state in which Jews are denied equal rights – when they aren’t killed outright.

FP: Why isn’t the mainstream media reporting on these statements by Rauf?

Geller: The only reason I can think of is that they are trying to protect him. With red flags everywhere in Rauf’s record and the nationwide grief caused by this grotesque act of Islamic supremacism, why isn’t the media doing its job of investigative journalism? It seems to me that it is because the media is rabid in its frenzy to destroy good, decent Americans who oppose a 15-story mega-mosque on Ground Zero.

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf’s rhetoric is ugly, racist, anti-American, and anti-Semitic, all wrapped up in “inter-faith” propaganda. But don’t expect to hear about it from Wolf Blitzer.

FP: Pamela Geller, thank you for joining Frontpage Interview.

Exclamation Little Lies of the Mosque »

Little Lies of the Mosque
How Imam Rauf utilizes Islamic theology to deceive New Yorkers to build the triumphalist "Islamic center" on Ground Zero
by Syed Kamran Mirza

It would be a mortal mistake for America to allow the Ground Zero mosque to be built. Like it or not, this mosque will serve as an iconic symbol of Islamic victory. It will be seen by Islamic jihadists around the world as a humiliating defeat dealt to American infidels by Islam.

Islam, in a serious sense, is a religion of great deception. Imam Feisal and his Islamic gang, the American Society of Muslim Advancement (ASMA), are no exceptions. Many Westerners appear to have a monumental confusion about the real purpose of this mosque. Because of a lack of knowledge in Islamic history, they are unable to understand exactly why Muslims are planning to erect it just a few yards from the 9/11 site.

Mayor Bloomberg, the downtown community, and the American Left have no idea why Islamists are so insistent upon erecting this Islamic flag over the ruins of the WTC and over the graves of 3,000 innocent dead Americans. They hardly understand the significance of the name “Cordoba House,” which Imam Feisal initially selected for the mosque. Ancient Muslims once invaded and occupied the Spanish city of Cordoba. They built a mosque over the rubble of a Catholic church as a symbol of their triumph over Spanish infidels. A mosque over the ruins of the WTC would likewise be a clear victory over American infidels.

This has been the practice and tradition recorded in ancient Islamic history. The Islamic Prophet and his disciples all did the same whenever they invaded and defeated any non-Muslim nation. The first thing they did was erect a mosque. Islamic Caliph Omar invaded and occupied Jerusalem and immediately erected the al-Aqsa Mosque (Dome of Rock) over the rubble of the Jewish Temple Mount of Solomon. Imam Feisal and his ASMA want to do much the same thing.

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, head of the ASMA, is utterly deceiving New Yorkers by his Islamic tactics of lies and deception. He is lying only to achieve Islamic dominance. Allah duly permits Muslims to “lie and deceive” all infidels in order to spreading Islam, the only religion accepted by Allah for all mankind (Qur’an-3:85).

It is most important to focus on one very pertinent aspect of this controversy. This conniving Imam has declared that the Ground Zero mosque construction will be completed by 2011—meaning this Islamic victory flag would be raised much before the completion of the rest of the planned Ground Zero monument complex. If that ever becomes a reality, the entire Muslim world will be rejoicing as the ultimate winner. The Cordoba mosque, symbolizing the victorious Islamic flag, will have been hoisted over the ruins of the iconic WTC, which was destroyed by the Islamic soldiers of Allah.

Imam Feisal’s 2004 book was titled, in Arabic, “The Call From the WTC Rubble: Islamic Da’wah From the Heart of America Post-9/11.” The title suggests Rauf is humiliating or denigrating the loss of American life by referring to the scene as “rubble.” By using the Islamic word Da’wah (call) he is intending to use the 9/11 mosque as a springboard for proselytizing Islam to America. However, the English title of the same book is “What’s Right with America is What’s Right with Islam.” This is exactly the kind of technique of Islamic deception used by all so-called moderate Muslims used only to fool Westerners.

Here are some of the most important implications of this mosque:

1. A mosque near the WTC destruction will give electrifying propaganda and triumphant victory to all Muslims of the world, and it will surely embolden the very jihadi-spirit and fanaticism of al-Qaeda in all other Islamic terrorist centers around the world.

2. Recruits for jihadi terrorists in the Muslim and non-Muslim world will rampantly increase. Also, this mosque will become a Islamic proselytizing center, and a breeding ground which will spread “stealth jihad” in America.

3. This mosque will act as a “Grand Mosque” at the heart of infidel America. It will be a 21st century Trojan horse from which Sharia law (Islamic draconian law) will spread with a speed of epidemic proportions — in America, as well as elsewhere in the Western world.

4. The American “war on terror,” which has lasted ten long years, cost trillions of dollars, and sacrificed tens of thousands of lives, will be a total loss. Victory of al-Qaeda jihadists will be declared throughout the entirety of the Muslim world.

Imam Feisal is perpetrating Islamic deception with the bogus claim of promoting “interfaith tolerance.” Islam is one of the most intolerant religions in the world. It does not recognize any other religion on earth. Hence, interfaith relations between Islam and other religions are a pure farce. That Islam “is a religion of peace” is the boldest lie one can hear repeated. Gullible Muslims can be peaceful, but Islam is a viciously violent religion. Radical Islamists (pure Muslims) are some of the most intolerant people on earth. The Qur’an is replete with Allah’s clarion call to kill all non-Muslims. Readers can find the truth about Qur’an right here.

The Islamic God (Allah) does not like or accept any other religions but Islam (see Qu’ran verses: 3:85, 3:19, 48:7, 14, and 25:2); the Qu’ran repeatedly curses all non-Muslims (see: 3:61, 8:55, 2:191, 9:123, 3:28, 47:4); Allah asks believers not to take any unbelievers, including any Christians or Jews, as friends (verses: 4:140, 5:57, 18:106, 10:99, 8:55, 98:6). How can there be any interfaith tolerance between Muslims and non-Muslims?

The ostensive “interfaith meetings and congregations” are an Islamic trick invented after 9/11 as part of “stealth jihad,” which strives to conceal and protect soldiers of the holy war. This is, in fact, a historical technique of Islamic war widely practiced by the Prophet of Islam in the 7th century to fool pagans. The Prophet of Islam said: “war is a deception.” Present day Islamists also use the same technique of deception practiced by the Prophet Muhammad. When Muslims are arrested for terrorism, or hatching a terrorist plot, some cunning Islamist Mullahs quickly come forward and repeat: “Islam has nothing to do with terrorism. The Qur’an never allows killing any innocent humans. Islam is a religion of peace.” Muslims, in general, will most always deny that any true Muslim-sponsored terrorism exists in the world. This is simply an act of hiding the real face of Islam. It is only to fool the Western media and the useful and gullible.

The Prophet of Islam did exactly the same thing in the 7th century when he came to Medina after having clashed with the pagans majority in Mecca. He also tried to fool all the affluent Jewish tribes in Medina and nearby areas by tantalizing them with a peace-pact. It was only to buy time while he gathered support from the poor vagabond Bedouins, luring them with spoils of war. He eventually gathered enough strength to attacked the Jewish tribes with full force. He also assassinated many of his opponents by these deceptive techniques. Within 10 years, the Prophet of Islam fought almost eighty offensive wars, plundered widely, killed or drove out all non-Muslim men, and enslaved women and children.
Please consider the duplicitousness of Imam Feisal’s motives and his dishonesty. Allah forbade Muslims to pray for any dead non-Muslim (Qur’an-9:84). Yet, here the Ground Zero imams are trumpeting the so-called “interfaith tolerance” of Islam with living non-Muslims. What a dreadful mockery and deception by this imam. These Islamists are engaging in stealth jihad and are trying to fool their host nation with their ridiculous interfaith nonsense. This will only be true as long as Muslims remain a small minority. The moment they grow at least 5-10% of the population, they will expose the real face of Islam.

The ulterior motive of this modern day jihad is to convert and bring all of mankind under Islam, the “only true religion of Allah.” That is the main reason why Islamic terrorists are continuously getting a silent nod of consent from millions of gullible Muslims and hypocritical Islamists like our Imam Feisal.

As per the Qur’an’s teachings (Qur’an: 98:6), Muslims consider the Western lifestyle immoral, unclean, and unethical, and they cannot emulate the Western lifestyle simply because of their belief in Islam. Instead, these Muslims living in Western host nations solemnly do expect and wish that sooner or later, Islamic Sharia law will be established and all Western infidels will start emulating the lifestyle of Muslims; hence fulfilling Allah’s wish to bring the entire Earth under the fold of Islam, the one true religion.

Why such a large mosque in downtown New York City?

Was there a sudden influx of Muslims in Manhattan? Will Imam Feisal and his ASMA agree to build a synagogue, a church, and a Hindu temple alongside this mosque—so that people of all four major religions can have a real chance at interfaith dialogue? Why doesn’t Saudi Arabia, the cradle of Islam, allow religions other than Islam to practice within its borders? Could Imam Feisal answer these questions?

Knowing the enemy is very crucial.

After almost ten years of the war on terror, the West is still struggling with the real identity and the real face of their greatest enemy. To maintain political correctness, they just cannot name the enemy with clarity. Proponents of American political correctness do not know that these Islamic jihadists are fighting many fronts in order to subdue American infidels and to fulfill their holy wish of converting America into an Islamic nation. I am afraid irresponsible political correctness may allow this to happen soon.

Misguided political appeasement, liberal myopia, naiveté, and reluctance to understand Islamic deception are all helping Islamists like Imam Feisal A. Rauf to utterly fool American politicians very easily.

Case in point: U.S. President Barak Obama’s recent endorsement of the Ground Zero mosque is highly insensitive. It is a suicidal mistake by the president of the free world. Nobody in America is asking to prohibit the practice of Islam. Hence, it was quite irrelevant for Obama to state:

“Muslims have the right to practice their religion.” This is sheer ignorance and naiveté on the part of the U.S. president, to say the least. President Barack Obama should ask his own conscience why Muslims need a mosque near Ground Zero over the sea of blood-stains left behind by almost 3,000 innocent Americans killed by Islamic terrorists. I wonder if President Obama would also endorse a Japanese “Kama Kazi interfaith” monument near Pearl Harbor, or a “Nazi interfaith” monument in London or Paris.
Muslims around the world who deplore the West and blame the “Great Satan” (America) in particular for almost anything bad, will take this mosque as a symbol of Islamic victory over the Western infidels. In the midst of such sacred territory, there will be a constant reminder that those who despise our way of life and everything this republic stands for can also use our hard-earned democratic freedom and rights against us.
President Obama and Mayor Bloomberg’s sheer pathetic ignorance regarding the Islamic mindset is reflected in their monumentally erroneous decision to endorse the Ground Zero mosque. Such a mosque would be a painful reminder to all New Yorkers who would passed it. Around the world, radical Muslims and gullible Muslims will remember the heroic victory of 9/11 jihadists. What a painful defeat and utter disgrace for the Western infidels.

Christopher Hitchens discovers that the Ground Zero mosque imam is not as moderate as he is cracked up to be

Not too long ago Christopher Hitchens wrote that opposition to the Islamic supremacist mega-mosque at Ground Zero was just bigotry and racism -- the whole tired laundry list of Leftist cliches. But now he is deeply confused, for he has discovered that the Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is not as "moderate" as the cappuccino bomb-throwers he hangs around with led him to believe. "A Test of Tolerance: The 'Ground Zero mosque' debate is about tolerance--and a whole lot more," by Christopher Hitchens at Slate, August 23:
Two weeks ago, I wrote that the arguments against the construction of the Cordoba Initiative center in lower Manhattan were so stupid and demagogic as to be beneath notice. [...]

From the beginning, though, I pointed out that Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf was no great bargain and that his Cordoba Initiative was full of euphemisms about Islamic jihad and Islamic theocracy. I mentioned his sinister belief that the United States was partially responsible for the assault on the World Trade Center and his refusal to take a position on the racist Hamas dictatorship in Gaza. The more one reads through his statements, the more alarming it gets. For example, here is Rauf's editorial on the upheaval that followed the brutal hijacking of the Iranian elections in 2009. Regarding President Obama, he advised that:
He should say his administration respects many of the guiding principles of the 1979 revolution--to establish a government that expresses the will of the people; a just government, based on the idea of Vilayet-i-faquih, that establishes the rule of law.
Coyly untranslated here (perhaps for "outreach" purposes), Vilayet-i-faquih is the special term promulgated by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini to describe the idea that all of Iranian society is under the permanent stewardship (sometimes rendered as guardianship) of the mullahs. Under this dispensation, "the will of the people" is a meaningless expression, because "the people" are the wards and children of the clergy. It is the justification for a clerical supreme leader, whose rule is impervious to elections and who can pick and choose the candidates and, if it comes to that, the results. It is extremely controversial within Shiite Islam. (Grand Ayatollah Sistani in Iraq, for example, does not endorse it.) As for those numerous Iranians who are not Shiites, it reminds them yet again that they are not considered to be real citizens of the Islamic Republic.

I do not find myself reassured by the fact that Imam Rauf publicly endorses the most extreme and repressive version of Muslim theocracy. The letterhead of the statement, incidentally, describes him as the Cordoba Initiative's "Founder and Visionary." Why does that not delight me, either?

Emboldened by the crass nature of the opposition to the center, its defenders have started to talk as if it represented no problem at all and as if the question were solely one of religious tolerance. It would be nice if this were true. But tolerance is one of the first and most awkward questions raised by any examination of Islamism. We are wrong to talk as if the only subject was that of terrorism. As Western Europe has already found to its cost, local Muslim leaders have a habit, once they feel strong enough, of making demands of the most intolerant kind. Sometimes it will be calls for censorship of anything "offensive" to Islam. Sometimes it will be demands for sexual segregation in schools and swimming pools. The script is becoming a very familiar one. And those who make such demands are of course usually quite careful to avoid any association with violence. They merely hint that, if their demands are not taken seriously, there just might be a teeny smidgeon of violence from some other unnamed quarter ...

As for the gorgeous mosaic of religious pluralism, it's easy enough to find mosque Web sites and DVDs that peddle the most disgusting attacks on Jews, Hindus, Christians, unbelievers, and other Muslims--to say nothing of insane diatribes about women and homosexuals. This is why the fake term Islamophobia is so dangerous: It insinuates that any reservations about Islam must ipso facto be "phobic." A phobia is an irrational fear or dislike. Islamic preaching very often manifests precisely this feature, which is why suspicion of it is by no means irrational.

From my window, I can see the beautiful minaret of the Washington, D.C., mosque on Massachusetts Avenue. It is situated at the heart of the capital city's diplomatic quarter, and it is where President Bush went immediately after 9/11 to make his gesture toward the "religion of peace." A short while ago, the wife of a new ambassador told me that she had been taking her dog for a walk when a bearded man accosted her and brusquely warned her not to take the animal so close to the sacred precincts. Muslim cabdrivers in other American cities have already refused to take passengers with "unclean" canines....
And much, much more of that kind of intolerance is to come, courtesy the idea of "tolerance" that prevails among the addled multiculturalist elite.

Moderate Muslim spokesman issues veiled threat over Ground Zero mega-mosque opposition and "Islamophobia"

You don't want to get Reza Aslan angry. "European Islamophobia Finds A Home In The U.S.," by Reza Aslan for NPR, August 23 (thanks to Anne Crockett):
[...] No matter what your feelings are about the proposed community center, there can be little doubt that Islamophobia is on the rise in America.

A Washington Post poll released last year found that nearly half of Americans -- 48 percent -- have an unfavorable view of Islam. That's nine points higher than in the months after the Sept. 11 attacks. A new national survey by the Pew Research Center found that 30 percent of those who disapprove of President Obama's job performance believe he is Muslim.
Note the snake oil that Aslan is peddling. He pretends that Americans have some irrational hatred of Islam, and hopes that as he wrings his hands about "Islamophobia" that his enlightened NPR readers will not remember the Fort Hood jihadist who murdered thirteen people, or the Christmas underwear jihadist that almost took down another airliner, or the Mumbai jihad, or the London jihad, or the Madrid jihad, or the Bali jihad, or so many, many other jihads around the world since 9/11. He wants you to think that Americans have an unfavorable view of Islam that stems from irrational hatred, from bigotry and racism.

And he isn't even concerned that some readers will see through his game and view him with greater suspicion and reserve once they do, because even that he will turn around to his own advantage in that parlor game ever-popular among Muslims in America, The Quest for Privileged Victim Status.
What's more disturbing is that anti-Muslim sentiment seems to have gone mainstream, with fringe groups like Stop Islamization of America -- which is behind many of the protests in lower Manhattan and has been participating in similar anti-Muslim rallies across the country -- suddenly receiving regular air time on mainstream media outlets. Stop Islamization of America is actually an affiliate of a European organization called Stop Islamization of Europe, an anti-Muslim hate group whose motto is "Racism is the lowest form of human stupidity, but Islamophobia is the height of common sense."
Actually SIOA hasn't adopted that slogan precisely because it can be misused by used car salesmen like Aslan, but its actual meaning should be clear to anyone who is not playing Gotcha or trying to portray freedom fighters in the worst possible light. SIOE is emphasizing that the resistance to Islamization is not racism, as is commonly charged, since the Islamic supremacist political ideology is not a race, and it is saying that concern about the advance of Sharia imperatives in the West is not an irrational fear, but a genuine concern for the preservation of European freedoms.
The connection between the two organizations is telling. In Europe, the passage of laws curtailing the rights and freedoms of Muslims and the success of avowedly anti-Islam political parties have led to a sense of marginalization and disenfranchisement among Europe's Muslim communities. That in turn has led to what I believe is a sharp increase in radicalization among Europe's young Muslims.
So "radicalization" is a response to attempts to preserve European cultural identity and genuine pluralism. Got it. What specific laws curtailing the rights and freedoms of Muslims were passed in London before the July 7, 2005 jihad bombings, Mr. Aslan? What specific laws curtailing the rights and freedoms of Muslims were passed in Madrid before the March 11, 2004 jihad bombings, Mr. Aslan?
[...] The fear is that this may lead to the same kind of radicalization among Muslim youth in the U.S. that we've seen in Europe. It has already played into the hands of al-Qaida, which has for years been trying to convince American Muslims that the unfettered religious freedoms they enjoy is a mirage -- that the U.S. will eventually turn against its Muslim citizens. Are we in danger of proving al-Qaida right?

I am a liberal, progressive, secularized American Muslim. But when I see that bigotry against my faith -- my very identity -- has become so commonplace in America that it is shaping into a wedge issue for the midterm elections, I can barely control my anger.

I can't imagine how the next generation of American Muslim youth will react to such provocations. I pray that we never find out.
Threat noted, Mr. Aslan. But instead of tossing veiled threats onto the cappuccino-stained pages of National Public Radio, shouldn't you, sterling moderate that you are, be working among those young Muslims to counter their tendencies to "radicalization"?

But of course, to do so would be to acknowledge that "radicalization" proceeds from wellsprings within the Islamic community itself, instead of as a response to provocation from without -- and that would contradict Aslan's entire victimhood narrative.
