As the Israeli Air Force pounds Hamas targets for the second time in 48 hours in reaction to a rocket attack, Defense Minister Liberman confirmed that Israel destroyed a fifth Hamas tunnel.

Hours after a rocket landed in open territory in Israel after being shot from the Gaza Strip Sunday night, Israel hit back with several airstrikes, including hitting what the IDF called “underground infrastructure.” The euphemism was clear to those used to reading between the lines of military-speak, but Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman openly called it what it was later in the day.

“Last night, we destroyed a terror tunnel near Kerem Shalom,” he said Monday at the weekly meeting of his Yisrael Beytenu faction in the Knesset.



No other details about the target were forthcoming.

This was the second day in a row that a terror tunnel was struck. On Sunday, the IDF confirmed that 18 Hamas targets were hit overnight Saturday following the wounding of four Israeli soldiers by explosive devices hidden at the Gaza Strip’s border fence earlier that day. According to Palestinian reports, Israeli jets fired around 10 missiles at a Hamas tunnel located in an agricultural area east of Rafah.

This is by now the fifth time in recent months that Israel has destroyed such an underground passageway emanating from the Hamas-ruled territory. In October, the IDF used explosives to blow up an attack tunnel belonging to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group, killing 14 terrorists, including two senior commanders. In December, using unspecified means, the army demolished a kilometer-long Hamas tunnel that began in Khan Younis and extended hundreds of meters into Israel. And just last month, the military destroyed a Hamas tunnel that crossed into Israel under the Kerem Shalom Crossing, through which hundreds of trucks bring goods into Gaza every day.

Over the past year, the army has been constructing an underground barrier around the Gaza Strip that is meant to block attempts to dig into Israel. The discovery of existing tunnels has been credited to a combination of unspecified cutting-edge technology and intelligence work.

.. the IDF needs to blow up all of these hamas tunnels at gaza right away.. asap.. if there are possibilities of a war in lebanon and syria. otherwise they will have 2 fronts open at the same time.. the north and the south.. and shut off all electricity to gaza ..

Don allow them sleep well. blow hamas in their bed, 24/7 and don't take prisoners, Lions and Lioness must go for all the brake bones against the hamas hienas.

I said it and I repeat. Why Israel doesn't go after the leadership of Hamas and Hezbollah? Why whey they respond to Hamas attacks don't destroy the propaganda tools (TV, radios, etc.)? They have to feel the pain to the point that they will think 10 times before they will attack again.
Regarding the tunnels, I wonder if Israel cannot bring sea water and drown everybody found in there!
One more thing. Every terrorist taken prisoner, must be indicted and put to death afterwards.

Just cut off all power and water ,and no goods of any sort allowed into Gaza,and drop leaflets all over to tell the people that when they get rid of Hamas and other similar groups the embargo will be lifted-let's see how long they last.

Cutting off the power causes major problems for Israel as it shuts down the only sewage plant and that crap floats into the sea and North. Cutting off water is a humanitarian issue.

It looks that the terror tunnels are well built, which means that Hamas diverted huge resources for war and terror. Hence the Gaza population is deprived by Hamas, not by Israel.
The IDF destroyed five terror tunnels. How many more to go?
If Hamas digs more, the earth under Gaza will have more holes than a Swiss cheese.
When will the international community realize that the suffering of the Gaza population is the making of Hamas?

This article did not mention the rocket fire that landed directly on top of an Israeli home; intended load did not detonate, and experts were called to dismantle it.

Wow is this what it comes down to? I remember when mining was a good thing, now coal miners are thought of as "dwarfs" and anything genuinely productive like fuel that could be found in them made to have the same value as blood diamonds. The Palestinians are become like the Orcs in The Ring. And destroying them in tunnels or mines has taken on a whole new meaning since I was a kid.

Now that the IDF has developed the technology to find and destroy these tunnels it will eventually stop. The savages have to consult with their master downstairs, Allah and/or Allah's Feldwebel Mohammad, and think of something new, and of course equally useless and expensive.

But not to worry, the EU will happily fund it.

Month after month, year after year I read about the atrocities inflicted upon Israeli civilians by their neighbours. I fear the world has become desensitised to this and attacks upon Israel are looked upon as a minor inconvenience much like the almost daily Islamist terrorism and leftist insurgency in parts of India financed by our neighbours.
